Ames National Laboratory is seeking applicants for a Facilities Construction Manager II. This position manages and coordinates all efforts required to assure compliance with building codes and contracts in the construction or modification of existing or new facilities.
Responsibilities of the position include leading or coordinating construction projects such as developing a new facility; the addition, expansion or extension of an existing facility; or the renovation/alterations to an existing facility. This position collaborates with project teams, construction sites, and management. This individual will develop assignments, timetables, and responsibilities for team members for the duration of the project; organizes and directs construction personnel and ensures that labor, materials and equipment are delivered in accordance with project specifications. This position helps to develop the preliminary designs, prepare scopes of work, schedules and cost estimates. This position also acts as the technical expert in contract negotiations. This position is responsible for processing change orders and invoices, and timely progress reporting for all assigned projects.
The successful candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to work with Ames Laboratory staff as well as external stakeholders and contractors. The candidate will also possess strong tact and maintain positive client and workplace relations. As problems arise, this individual will need to quickly identify beneficial solutions, so problem-solving and troubleshooting skills are advantageous. Strong organizational and analytical skills, including the ability to organize and coordinate work within various programs and projects is essential for success in this position.
