Primary Objective of Position:


Fabrication and Machining - The primary objective of this position is to perform custom machining and fabrication services for the company, both in the shop and on jobsites in the R3. Primary equipment used includes benders, rollers, sheers, welders, lathes, drill presses.  Vast majority of work is performed using aluminum and composite materials.  Some copper, stainless steel work and other misc. materials are also included.

 

Shop Technician - This role will also assist the shop department as needed, including but not limited to trailer loading/unloading and reconciliation. Shipping, courier services and material/parts transportation.  Responsible for performing equipment maintenance procedures as well as shop maintenance and repair projects as assigned.  


Position is largely based out of the corporate office in St. Cloud, MN, however, up to 25% of fabrication work may be performed in the field at power plants in North America, working out of the company’s R3 mobile fabrication unit. Must be experienced and capable of correctly and safely operating required machinery and equipment to perform machining and fabrication activities while ensuring schedule adherence and quality standards are met.


Must be able to communicate professionally, follow oral and written instructions, demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude and blueprint reading skills.


Emergent Availability – This position requires intermittent availability during weekends, evenings, and early mornings for emergency projects. This does not restrict the use of their time off from work and will only be required to report to work when emergency jobs are prevalent.


Responsibilities/Tasks

  • Fabrication and machining of raw materials and purchased components, both in the shop and R3.
  • Track, test and verify all company tools and equipment are secured and maintained in proper working order. Perform proactive repair and maintenance as required or directed.  Check tools, materials and equipment in and out of the inventory system.
  • Accurately load appropriate equipment, materials and tooling into company vehicles and job trailers in a timely and efficient manner. Perform inventory reconciliation after each company asset returns from the field while unloading, performing quality and maintenance checks and placing assets back into inventory in working order. Responsible for all trailer loading and reconciliation processes including required checklists and reports.
  • Fulfills job orders and organizes and keeps track of usage reports on minimum weekly basis.
  • Fill out checkoff sheets properly and completely and input into computer in a timely fashion to ensure accuracy of real-time information.
  • Monitor equipment to ensure it is in good working order, participate in the overall maintenance of the facility and equipment - notify management of any necessary repairs or possible equipment concerns.
  • Inspects all tools and electrical equipment prior to loading and upon equipment return to ensure it is safe and ready to go for next job.
  • Ability to store materials, supplies, and equipment in an orderly and accessible manner in warehouses, tool rooms, supply rooms, or other areas.
  • Ensures freight packaging/loading quality and integrity.
  • Drive company vehicles to and from vendors and job sites as required.
  • Complete basic carpentry projects.
  • Provide a high level of customer service to internal and external customers and vendors in a safe, timely and efficient manner.
  • Follow written processes if available and utilize best practices while completing tasks.
  • Be an involved/engaged member of a team and be willing to act and think independently while taking direction as required.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and professional shop area. 
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience operating forklifts and/or other machinery used in receiving, shipping, storing and safely and efficiently moving warehouse materials and supplies.
  • Ability to determine and execute proper storage methods, identification, and stock location based on shelf life and space availability.
  • Work with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks when emergencies arise.
  • ISO 9001 and Process Improvement – Supports the effort of ISO 9001 and process improvement by recommending methods, equipment, techniques and other changes to improve department operations. Participates in internal audits, risk assessment and corrective actions as required. Writes and updates work instructions as needed and is proactive in documentation and control of processes.
  • Apparent or Assigned Performs any other work as apparent or assigned.


Qualifications for Entry:


  • Minimum 10 years of experience
  • Exceptional machining and fabrication skills with the following equipment: 
    • Mill
    • Press Brake
    • Drill Press
    • Roller
    • Lathe
    • Required hand tools
  • Minimum 5 years recent aluminum TIG and MIG welding experience
  • Expert hand tool and jig making experience
  • Available to overnight travel as deemed necessary
  • Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance
  • Physical ability to independently lift, carry or maneuver up to 50 pounds
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate (verbal/written) effectively with fellow employees
  • Demonstrative ability to work in a cooperative and team-oriented environment
  • Demonstrative ability to use computers and Shop reference manuals
  • Capacity to analyze a situation and prioritize tasks
  • Aptitude for mechanics
  • Excellent work attendance and timeliness
  • Prior assistance as fabricator or shop helper
  • Forklift driving experience
  • Ability to think independently
  • Honest and dependable work ethic
  • Aluminum Welding experience preferred


Training for Effective Performance:


  • Demonstrated knowledge of the methods and practices used in receiving materials and supplies in warehouse deliveries.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the methods and practices used in storing materials and supplies in warehouses and Shops, based on shelf life and space availability.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the methods and practices used in shipping materials and supplies from warehouses and Shops.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the methods of packing materials and supplies onto pallets for storage in warehouses or delivery shipments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of inventory procedures and records for warehouse, shop materials and equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the powered materials handling equipment and function (e.g., carts, forklifts, standup lifts, pallet jacks) used in receiving, storing, relocating and shipping materials and supplies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the equipment and function of forklifts for safety inspection.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor and review manuals to detect and assess maintenance issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your hands, arms, and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, handling of materials and performing maintenance
  • Demonstrated ability to service, repair, adjust, and test machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work outside for extended periods of time.
  • Demonstrated ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Demonstrated ability to assure both site, equipment and employee safety and security
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the maintenance schedule
  • Demonstrated ability to be involved in process and product improvements
  • General knowledge of company policies and procedures
  • Demonstrative ability to use good communication and organizational skills to insure a high CSL (customer service level)


Physical Demands
