Position Summary:
The Fabrication Designer plays a key role in the organization, translating design information into 3D models, layouts, shop drawings, and CNC files used for fabrication on the shop floor. The Fabrication Designer will work directly with the Design team, Production CNC Lead, and Project Coordinator to help ensure drawing integrity, documentation, coordination, and continuous improvement of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) processes and product development. This is a remote or hybrid role supporting our manufacturing facility in Phoenix, IL, right outside of Chicago.

Position Summary:
The Fabrication Designer plays a key role in the organization, translating design information into 3D models, layouts, shop drawings, and CNC files used for fabrication on the shop floor. The Fabrication Designer will work directly with the Design team, Production CNC Lead, and Project Coordinator to help ensure drawing integrity, documentation, coordination, and continuous improvement of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) processes and product development. This is a remote or hybrid role supporting our manufacturing facility in Phoenix, IL, right outside of Chicago.
Essential Functions:
- Produce precise, clear, and accurate CLT/ Glulam Fabrication drawings for external coordination and internal operations.
- Provide data oversight and support to the CNC and Operations teams maintaining integrity and quality control.
- Develop 2D and 3D models and drawings of CLT components for each project in response to structural layout and details using Autodesk Revit and other industry-standard CAD/Revit software, coordinating with the Design Team and Project A&E teams.
- Manage release of final shop drawing packet based on the client-approved 3D model to the factory floor for manufacturing, fabrication, packaging, and shipping.
- Record, track, and implement all DfMA change requests while maintaining communication and coordination between the design, project management and operations teams throughout the design and manufacturing process.
- Review projects for buildability, balancing in-house fabrication limitations, design intent, engineering needs and installation considerations.
- Generate initial product Bill of Materials and penalization plans for procurement ordering.
- Develop generic and project-specific 3D assets to assist with the design and specification of TerraLam CLT in projects.
- Suggest product development plans and direction reacting to industry input and anticipating market trends to propel utilization.
- Maintain adept understanding of developing mass timber/prefabrication trends.
- All other duties and projects as assigned.
- At least two (2) years of hands-on work experience with Revit, DFMA and shop drawing coordination in a manufacturing or construction environment
- Background in Engineering, construction, or technical drafting preferred.
- Strong proficiency in Autodesk Revit, Bluebeam Revu, and Autodesk Fusion.
- Demonstrated history of learning new software programs and workflows/processes
- Experience in digital fabrication and parametric design.
- Experience with CNC and mass timber design/construction, strongly preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills
- Project management experience preferred.
