The Eye Bank of Kentucky is looking for a full time Eye Bank Technician to add to our team! The mission of The Eye Bank of Kentucky is to restore sight through corneal transplant, ocular research, and medical education. We promote eye, organ, and tissue donation while respecting and honoring the donors and their families who so selflessly give.
We are a group of compassionate medical professionals dedicated to saving and enhancing lives through organ, tissue, and cornea donation. We recover, evaluate, prepare and distribute donated eye tissues. The Eye Bank of Kentucky is a non-profit charitable organization.
The Eye Bank Technician is responsible for the stewardship of gifted human tissue for transplant and research purposes.
Primary duties include but are not limited to, the following:
· Screening potential eye donors with donor referral agencies.
· Surgical recovery of eye tissue from cadaveric donors.
· Microscopic evaluation of tissue and determination of donor medical eligibility for transplant.
· Surgical preparation of donated eye tissue.
Coordinate with the Transplantation and Logistics Coordinator in the offering and placement of ocular tissue.
· Environmental Quality Control of the laboratory areas and surgical suite.
· Fair and equitable distribution of donated tissue for transplant and research use.
· Careful packaging and shipping of blood and tissue specimen
· Other assigned clinical duties related to providing the gift of sight.
Qualified applicants will meet the following education and experience guidelines:
Required:
- Associates degree in a science or healthcare related field or one-year healthcare experience
- Valid driver’s license
- A working knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
- The ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Experience reviewing medical records
Desired:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be detail oriented
- Phlebotomy experience
- Familiarity and practice with aseptic technique
- EBAA Certified Eye Bank Technician
International medical students/physicians are encouraged to apply.
This is a full-time non-exempt position working 40 hours a week but may exceed specified hours. This position will work mostly Monday-Friday, with the possibility of rotating Sundays. The Eye Bank of Kentucky services the community 24/7/365 and will require some holidays, weekends, and evening shifts. The position will report to the Clinical Manager.
