Job description

General Purpose:

The Office Services External Downtown Messenger files, copies, delivers and picks up various types of documents and materials within the Salt Lake City area at scheduled times or as requested. They move equipment, furniture, materials, etc. and acts as backup to other positions in Office Services as necessary. The Messenger role requires a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle for courier services in the metro area. This role works Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm at our beautiful Salt Lake City office.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Obtains signatures, delivers and picks up miscellaneous documents and materials in the Salt Lake valley as required.
  • Files, submits and/or copies documents at various courts and agencies in the Salt Lake valley .
  • Arranges for outside courier or cab services to complete errands whenever H&H service is unavailable.
  • Assists with recordkeeping of mileage logs and messenger charges.
  • Assists with moving supplies, equipment, furniture, and other materials as requested.
  • Assists with mail pick-up, distribution, and delivery of mail to USPS office daily.
  • Provides assistance with maintenance of basement storage, and l document shredding needs.
  • Acts as back‑up to other positions in Office Services as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications (Education, Experience and Certification):

  • High School Degree or GED required.
  • Valid Driver’s License and good driving record is required. Knowledge of city and surrounding Metropolitan area preferred.
  • Notary Status preferred or interest in obtaining Notary status.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and use various technologies to support the operations in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to work productively under pressure to meet all deadlines.
  • Ability identify and overcome obstacles in completing duties.
  • Ability to communicate (in both oral and written forms) effectively and appropriately at all levels.
  • Good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Suite other Windows-based Applications.
  • Demonstrated skill in organizing work and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Flexibility to occasionally work earlier or later to meet firm requests.
  • Physical ability to move furniture, equipment, and packages that weigh in excess of 75 lbs. on a frequent basis in a safe and careful manner.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee must have the ability to sit, stand and/or walk for extended periods of time; manipulate (lift, carry, move) weights of at least seventy five (75) pounds; have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on a computer and/or related office equipment; speak clearly and concisely so listeners can understand; and regularly understand the speech of another person.
