Job Summary
Under general direction, is responsible for managing the Pre-K 4 SA Extended Day Program, including serving as the administrator on duty, which serves approximately 250 children daily. Assists the Education Center Director in overseeing the program during the regular instructional day. Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff.
This position is funded by sales tax that has been approved by the citizens of San Antonio for a limited time period. This position, therefore, is subject to at-will employment status, and is unclassified and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provides administrative leadership for the Extended Day program, including exercising judgement and decision-making in designing program services, creating schedules, supervising staff and children, and managing crises and emergencies.
  • Provides instructional leadership for the program to include training and guiding assigned staff in the development and implementation of lessons that are developmentally appropriate, extend children's learning, and incorporate the unique interests and needs of children being served. Models instructional practices, to include conducting small-group and large-group activities and interacting with children at
    eye-level.
  • Provides professional guidance, training, resources, and evaluations for assigned staff.
  • Develops policy recommendations to improve program performance and outcomes.
  • Develops and maintains systems for recording and reporting data related to program metrics, including attendance, child transitions, and incidents.
  • Ensures compliance with Child Care Minimum Standards and Pre-K 4 SA policies, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Develop and manage the program budget, including analyzing expense reports, identifying potential efficiencies, and evaluating and approving proposed purchases.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with Pre-K 4 SA school administration, teachers, parents, and staff.
  • In the case of an emergency situation, may be required to lift and carry students weighing up to 50 pounds to move students during dangerous situations.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education; or a related field with a Child Development Associate (CDA) certification or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years' experience in education, child development or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1) year of experience supervising employees within a child development center or education organization.

One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.
