Examples of Duties
- Performs all tasks related to the expungement process, including but not limited to:
- Ensuring the completeness and accuracy of expungement packages.
- Preparing expungement orders for signature by judges in a timely fashion.
- Distributing expungement orders to defendants, SLED, and other third parties.
- Creates various reports on a monthly basis regarding cases eligible for expungement and the status of proposed expungement orders; maintains files relating to expungement orders.
- Provides customer service through telephone, email or in person to defendants, attorneys, government agencies, and others regarding the status of expungement orders.
- Redacts court dockets of expunged cases.
- Coordinates with the Prosecutor’s Office and Charleston Police Department on expungement applications.
- Provides support by acting as a docket clerk to the judge and overall courtroom operations, as needed. Duties include:
- Providing pre, during, and post court docket preparations associated with clerking responsibilities in the various courts.
- Providing case notifications and filing to appropriate case parties, as well as legal and enforcement agencies.
- Ensuring video and audio recordings of all cases and hearings.
- Entering case dispositions in Court Case Management System (CMS).
- Coordinating with the appropriate accounting technicians for payment of court fines and fees.
- Utilizes discretion regarding restricted, sensitive, and confidential information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Associate degree (AA/AS) in a related field and 2 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel and Word or similar software.
- Ability to type a minimum of 35 words per minute.
- Ability to comprehend federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and directives from South Carolina Court Administration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of CMS system.
- Prior court operations experience.
