Job Description

This position is responsible for implementing therapeutic patient services as a part of the Expressive Therapy Program, will act as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team, will maintain an appropriate patient caseload and create individual patient assessments. Demonstrate competency in providing therapeutic group activities with preadolescents (3-12), adolescents (13-17) and adults (18 and older, including geriatrics).
This is a Full-time, benefit eligible position (40 hours weekly). Working Monday-Friday 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
Responsibilities include:

  • Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills
  • Provide a positive/supportive environment for all patients during Expressive Therapy groups
  • Provide activity, art, music, or relaxation based therapy groups to meet the treatment goals for patients of all ages
  • Plan and Execute Expressive Therapy groups based on specific themes
  • Adapt group plans based on the needs of patients
  • Educate patients in activities and techniques, such as sports, dance, music, art or relaxation techniques, designed to meet their specific physical and psychological needs
  • Conduct Expressive Therapy groups that improve patients' mental and physical well-being
  • Encourage patients with special needs and circumstances to acquire new skills and get involved in health-promoting leisure activities, such as sports, games, arts and crafts, and other healthy coping skills
  • Observe, analyze, and document patients' participation, reactions, and progress during treatment programs as needed
  • Communicate behavioral observations to other members of the Expressive Therapy team as well as treatment team members
  • Develop an intervention plan to meet needs of patients, based on needs assessment, patient interests and objectives of therapy and record on MTP
  • Confer with members of the treatment team to plan and evaluate therapy needs of patients
  • Plan, organize, direct and participate in treatment programs and activities to facilitate patients' rehabilitation and help them to develop coping skills to integrate into daily life
  • Adhere to all confidentiality policies and procedures of the organization
  • Continue to find and develop new and innovative activities and group plans to engage patients in group as well as promote mental and physical well-being
  • Remain current on organizational standards such as (but not limited to) CALM, CPR, and Relias learning
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Regular exposure to blood and/or body fluids
  • Regular exposure to biohazard waste materials
    Expressive Therapy Assistant:
    • High School/GED required
    • Associates degree in therapeutic recreation, occupational therapy, art therapy, music therapy or related human services field preferred
    • At least two years of experience in mental health required if 60 hours of college credit is not obtained
    Expressive Therapist:
    • Associates degree in therapeutic recreation, occupational therapy, art therapy, music therapy or related human services field required
    • Bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation, occupational therapy, art therapy, music therapy or related human services field preferred
    At least one year of experience in the human services field required
