Job Title Executive Director of Financial Support and Scholarships Department Office of Financial Support/Scholarship Essential Functions
Lead a team that's making a difference!  

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor of Institutional Effectiveness and Student Success, the Executive Director of Financial Support and Scholarships serves as an integral member of the leadership team, participating in the development and implementation of the institutional enrollment and recruitment initiatives. Role responsibilities include administration of federal, state, and institutional financial aid, including scholarships, endowment awards, and grants totaling more than $100 million annually.

The Executive Director develops and executes a departmental vision and strategy for leveraging financial aid resources, while meeting student financial needs consistent with and supporting the University's enrollment goals. The Executive Director also works collaboratively with internal colleagues in overseeing the development and implementation of financial aid strategies necessary to maximize recruitment and retention of first-time freshmen, transfer, and graduate students. The Executive Director responsibly executes the efficient and effective daily administrative and organizational functions of the office as well as develops and recommends policies and procedures for financial aid administration, while maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations. The Executive Director oversees the development and updating of significant Financial Aid policies and procedures, such as, Cost of Attendance, Satisfactory Academic Progress, Return of Title IV Funds, Packaging, and Verification policies. Other duties include, but not limited to, managing military and veterans benefits within Financial Support and Scholarships office; providing feedback on institutional tuition discount, or remission policies; managing foundation scholarships; enhancing and assessing the use of remissions, or discount, for recruitment and retention purposes; in addition to collaborating on financial aid strategies with partner community colleges.

With accountability for daily operations, the Executive Director leads, mentors, and develops over a dozen full-time staff members, including supervising, training, and professional development as well as organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling office assignments. The Executive Director plays a leading role in campus financial literacy efforts as well as works closely with prospective and current students and families on issues related to paying for college and managing student loan debt.
Work Schedule M-F 8-5 Additional Duties
| Total coordination, administration, and management of federal, state, institutional, and other internal/external funding sources as it relates to student financial assistance. Ensure continuation of university eligibility in various aid programs by overseeing compliance with accurate and timely reporting of aid expenditures, completion of appropriate aid applications and participating in audits of financial aid operations. Manage and oversee budget reconciliation and audits.
| Responsible for the efficient and effective daily administrative and organizational functions of the office. Develop and/or recommend policies and procedures for financial aid administration while maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations. Develop, update, and oversee financial aid policies and procedures such as: cost of attendance, satisfactory academic programs, return of Title IV funds, packaging policies, and verification. Work closely with the Office of Business and Finance as well as Systems Intelligence and Data Analytics to ensure smooth and timely implementation of policies.
| Monitor aid expenditures, forecast budgets and develop appropriate packaging philosophies/strategies to leverage financial aid resources that are consistent with and support the University's enrollment goals.
| Keep knowledgeable and current on ever-changing legislation and regulations that impact the administration of financial aid and be able to translate and implement changes when necessary. In addition, communicate changes in legislation and regulations to internal audiences including but not limited to staff, faculty, University administrators, and community partners.
| Lead, hire, train, evaluate, cultivate, and mentor financial aid staff members. Supervise and provide ongoing professional development opportunities for all staff members.
| Counsel and advise students regarding the financial process, as well as troubleshoot special problems/situations raised by student aid applicants and their families involving federal, state, and institutional policies and procedures.
| Coordinate and communicate with other University offices and departments including, Admissions, Orientation, Records and Registration, Cashiering, MavUSO, Office of Multicultural Affairs, Project Achieve, etc.
| Represent the University to various internal and external customers, including media, government agencies, funding agencies, professional associations, University and University of Nebraska central administration, students, and the general public.
| Full oversight of the Financial Aid operating budget
Required Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelor's degree

Required Experience: Minimum of five years administrative and supervisory experience in a comprehensive office of financial/student aid. Thorough knowledge of financial aid regulations. Experience with federal, state, and institutional compliance audits, budget management, and required federal aid reports. Experience in windows-based student information systems. Demonstrated strategic understanding of the integral role of financial aid in supporting student enrollment, student success and student services. Experience and expertise in the latest best practices and approaches to students' financial aid process.
