The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) is the only national association representing the professional interests of paramedics, advanced emergency medical technicians, emergency medical technicians, emergency medical responders and other professionals providing prehospital and out-of-hospital emergent, urgent or preventive medical care. NAEMT was formed in 1975 and is now over 90,000 members strong.

About the Organization

The mission of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) is to represent and serve emergency medical technicians (EMTs), advanced EMTs, paramedics, and specialty paramedics, and support personnel through advocacy, education, and research.

NAEMT members work in all sectors of EMS, including government service agencies, fire departments, hospital-based ambulance services, private companies, industrial and special operations settings, and in the military. They also work in hospitals, clinics and other healthcare settings.

The association has an annual revenue budget of $3.9 million and is supported by a staff of 20 including independent contractors (all working remotely). A 15-member elected Board of Directors leads the association. The Board includes an appointed medical director who is an experienced EMS physician. The Board relies on volunteer committees comprised of members to assist in carrying out the work of the association. A large network of corporate partners and affiliated associations also supports the mission.

The association maintains a headquarters building in Clinton, Mississippi.

NAEMT is organized under section 501(c) 6 of the U.S. tax code.

NAEMT serves its members by advocating on issues that impact their ability to provide quality patient care, providing high quality education that improves the knowledge and skills of practitioners, and supporting EMS research and innovation.

Advocacy

NAEMT is at the forefront of national discussions and initiatives that have significant impact on the EMS profession. Issues include workforce recruitment and retention, EMS practitioner and patient safety, reimbursement, increased funding for EMS in underserved areas, integration with the healthcare continuum, and community paramedicine. NAEMT advocates to members of Congress and their staff through nationwide grassroots advocacy campaigns, a professional lobbying team, and contributions to candidates for federal office via NAEMT’s EMS PAC.

Education

NAEMT provides continuing education to over 148,000 EMS practitioners and other prehospital providers in 87 countries. NAEMT works with more than 17,700 instructors through our network of 2,600 approved training centers to conduct our courses. NAEMT is the global standard in continuing education for EMS practitioners and other prehospital providers and NAEMT provides evidence-based, referenced, and field-tested courses that emphasize critical thinking skills to obtain the best outcomes for patients. NAEMT courses are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Prehospital Continuing Education (CAPCE). The extensive and respected education program provides the majority of the association’s revenue.
