Provide leadership of functions related to Performing Arts (band, choir, orchestra, theatre arts, and dance) and Visual Arts programs. Successfully navigate the interrelatedness of students, stakeholders, personnel, administration, budget, curriculum, facilities, and public relations.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Instructional Management1.
Provide oversight of and direction to the district's Performing Arts, Visual Arts and Enrichment Programs.2. Assist teachers and principals with the implementation and improvement of Fine Arts instruction. Activities will consist of design and distribution of instructional materials, assistance with planning for instruction, implementation and evaluation of Fine Arts instructional programs, writing, revision, review, and implementation of Fine Arts assessments.3.
Coordinate the review and selection of Fine Arts textbooks and curricular materials.4. Plan and/or coordinate additional Fine Arts student activities such as special concerts, festivals, field trips, competitions/exhibits at both campus and district levels.5. Attend various Fine Arts programs and events regularly.
School/Organization Climate1. Brief the superintendent, the school board, and the public concerning Fine Arts programs and their implementation, upon request.2. Prepare and present Fine Arts program reviews to the board and staff, as needed.3.
Plan and conduct regular meetings for curriculum review, revision and instructional improvement with appropriate Fine Arts teachers and staff groups.4. Present and interpret to the board, principals and teachers any changes in Fine Arts instructional programs- goals, contents, methods, procedures, and materials.5. Promote open and positive communication among central office staff, campus administration, campus teachers, the Board of Trustees, and stakeholders.
School/Organization Improvement1. Assist with or initiate the design or revision of Fine Arts instructional programs to further district instructional goals.2. Exercise leadership in the development and revision of district level Fine Arts curriculum guides and other public documents, and ensure that they are current.3.
Design, coordinate, and present professional learning opportunities for Fine Arts teachers and staff, including new teacher orientation.4. Collaborate with colleagues to encourage the integration of disciplines, whenever possible. Personnel Management1.
Provide leadership in ongoing provision of information and training for teachers about the appraisal process as it relates to the district Fine Arts program. 2. Stay current in appraiser certification and training, as required by Midland ISD.3.
Provide professional learning and assistance for teacher improvement in collaboration and cooperation with other support staff and principals, as needed, to maximize teacher performance and success.4. Assist in the recruitment and selection interview process for Fine Arts teachers, as requested by campus or district leaders.5. Supervise and evaluate district level Fine Arts staff.
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management1. Prepare and submit Fine Arts program budget recommendations and exercise responsible management of the budget.2. Provide information about Fine Arts instructional needs for use by campus and district administrators in the preparation of campus budgets.3.
Prepare and maintain a Fine Arts equipment refresh cycle4. Comply with state, district, and campus policies and with operating and budgetary procedures and requirements. Facilities Management1.
Confer with directors and principals in planning for facility utilization and/or expansion for Fine Arts programs.2. Secure appropriate meeting sites for all professional learning activities, communicating in a timely and efficient manner with the primary site managers concerning specific needs.3. Assist public groups in securing facilities for presentations to student and teacher groups.4.
Act as a liaison between building principals, MISD repair services, purchasing, and manufacturers in maintaining Fine Arts equipment required for the instructional program. Student Management1. Plan carefully for all district-wide Fine Arts programs and student activities sponsored by the school district.2.
Facilitate all-level student participation in local, regional, and national Fine Arts competitions. School/Community Relations1. Plan for broad-based teacher and community involvement in curriculum development projects.2.
Work actively with community organizations to promote the arts and to encourage cultural growth in the community (specifically act as district liaison with the Midland/Odessa Symphony Board, The Midland Arts Assembly, Midland Opera Theatre Board, City Council PTA, Midland Community Theatre, the Museum of the Southwest, Midland Festival Ballet, and other art related associations).3. Promote Midland ISD Fine Arts departments via the district website and social media. Professional Growth and Development1.
Plan for and engage in professional learning opportunities which update knowledge of content, programs, methods and materials, and federal and state guidelines affecting Fine Arts instruction.2. Promote and assist Fine Arts teachers' participation in personal and professional growth opportunities.
