Job Summary

The Executive Director of the Junaid Family Foundation (JFF) serves as a key leadership team member and chief management officer of the foundation secretariat. Working closely with the Chief Advisors, Chairs, and other senior leaders, the Executive Director drives execution of activities supporting the mission and goals of the foundation.

Through various initiatives focusing on healthcare & development, education & society, equity & diversity, and civic engagement, JFF seeks to transform generational poverty and sow seeds of future prosperity.

Description

Working under the guidance and supervision of the Chairs and Chief Advisors (henceforth called the “the board”), the Foundation staff (henceforth called the “Secretariat”) is led by the Executive Director (ED), who is accountable for the implementation of the strategic vision set out by the Board. The ED is responsible for the overall management of JFF’s operational, programmatic, and administrative functions. The ED also maintains strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders that are essential collaborators in JFF’s efforts. The ED is expected to exemplify values of high ethical standards, integrity, and fairness while acting in the best interests of JFF in all contexts and circumstances.

The ED reports to the JFF Board with dual line reports to the Chairs and Chief Technical Advisor (CTA).

Scope of Work

Working on the strategic priorities established by the Board, the ED will work closely with the leadership of JFF in fulfilling the mission of the foundation, including (but not limited to):

Foundation Strategy:

●Lead development of organizational planning activities/meetings

●Strategic planning

Program/Grants Development and Oversight:

●Lead RFP operations and manage Program Officers (PO) in daily execution of active RFPs

●Provide review and recommendation of all Letters of Intent (LOI) and applications

●Champion exploration of future organizational relationships and grants

●Direct scheduling of potential partner meetings

●Drive discussion in partnership/proposal discussion with prospective grant recipients

●Define program design recommendations for consideration by the board for further pursuit

●Develop strong and enduring relationships with other nonprofits as needed or guided by the board

●Provide guidance on follow-up with active partners and grant recipients

●Program reporting

●Program development (learning programs)

Finance:

●Track Foundation expenses and maintain US tracking report with financial officer

●Allocate grants and direct payment processing for expenses and grants

●Schedule and moderate monthly finance calls

Management:

●Oversee workload of PO’s

●Ensure regular team meetings with PO’s and CTA

●Oversee PO learning and exploration of utility of software and application to JFF

●Communications with senior leaders on prospective programming, Foundation operations, etc.

Process Development and Oversight:

●Drive overall direction of core operational processes

●Oversee development of core templates (e.g. RFP applications, LOIs, letters)

●Evaluate effectiveness of current processes and work with team to make revisions, as necessary

●Recommend and initiate software/operational process tools.

Marketing and Public Relations:

●Development of core Foundation Brand

●Collaborate with agency partner(s) to develop Marketing plan development

●Oversee creative development process with program officers and agency partner(s)

●Initiate updates to website and support content development

●Oversee development of social media and related strategy

●Oversee development of other core marketing resources including newsletters (internal and external), contact lists, collateral materials

●Develop agency relationships, as needed and budget allows

●Serve as Foundation representative on speaker panels, webinars, roundtables, etc.

Responsibilities/Reporting

Work closely with Foundation co-chairs and senior leadership to support the Foundation’s vision and strategy and then translate the strategy into an effective plan of execution including:

●Oversee the management of daily operational activities, including finances, program management, marketing, program evaluation, grant activities, and alignment between JFF offices.

●Manage and support JFF staff to enhance their capabilities and ensure the delivery of high-quality programs.

●Serve as a key face of the organization with external entities, including donors, partners, and stakeholders.

●Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies governing the operation of a 501(C)3 organization.

●Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, donors, partners, and stakeholders.

●Serve as a key organizational leader to support fundraising development of the organization.

●The ED will have a dual report to the Chairs of the Foundation and the Chief Technical Advisor.

●The ED will operationalize strategic and technical decisions made by the Chairs/Advisors.

Requirements

This position requires (or prefers) the following:

●Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (health, development, social sectors) required; and a Master's degree strongly preferred.

●Minimum of 7-10 years or more of experience in nonprofit management, including fundraising, program management, and strategic planning or comparable experience.

●Experience working with a board of directors and other senior leaders in nonprofit organizations.

●Demonstrated success in partnership and collaboration with other entities to serve joint goals.

●Strong team management and mentorship experience with demonstrated ability to lead partner agencies and vendors, especially as related to marketing and public relations activities.

●Knowledge of best practices in business/relational management, including financial management, program evaluation, and marketing.

●Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with demonstrated presentation experience in multiple venue types.

●Strong writing skills.

●Ability to work independently and as part of a team, to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

●Strong organizational skills and ability to define and follow processes and support utilization of new processes across the organization.

●Experience working with diverse communities and cultures and experience in development, health or social sectors needed.

●Knowledge of languages other than English is not required but an asset.

Further Details

This position is full-time, 40 hours a week, based in Cleveland, Ohio and include:

●Travel may be required both domestically and internationally – generally not more than 25-35% of the time (depending on program of work).

●In-office presence is required for 3-4 days a week, while hybrid work from home may be possible for 1-2 days a week, with agreement of the board and upon request.
