We are seeking a Lower School Exceptional Education Teacher for The Glenwood School campus for the 2024 - 25 school year.
PURPOSE/FUNCTION:
Organizes programming and services for eligible students on the micro school campuses. Maintains accurate and complete records for students served by the Exceptional Education programs. Provides screening and coordinates the eligibility process for identified students. Works with classroom teaching staff and families to determine how to best serve the needs of diverse learners in full inclusion settings. Uses data collection measures created by Exceptional Education staff to monitor progress.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Identifies students eligible for Exceptional Education services, and coordinates all processes for eligibility.
Works with professionals from the private school team at the Hamilton County Department of Education to identify eligible students and coordinate services.
Identifies and implements interventions, modifications, and accommodations according to student needs.
Coordinates with relevant service providers to implement individualized plans for all students.
Implements de-escalation strategies and maintains the physical safety of all students.
Identifies and plans materials for a variety of classroom needs.
Maintains confidentiality of identified students and maintains files for students who receive support through the Exceptional Education department at CCS.
Works with the school nurse to create and manage medical plans for students in The Learning Center.
Communicates clearly and professionally through speaking and writing.
Is comfortable using a variety of technology.
Facilitates positive social exchanges for all students.
Other job duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Personal faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to the mission of Chattanooga Christian School
Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or Psychology
Teaching license in the State of TN in Special Education (460, 461)
Experience working with students with disabilities in inclusion settings
Experience working with visual supports in a general education setting
Experience using a range of reading and math intervention programs (Orton Gillingham, Lindamood Bell, Touch Math, EdMark, etc.) according to student needs
Preference will be given to candidates who are fluent in English and Spanish
Character, call, and availability to fulfill the needs of job description
Highly motivated and able to work collaboratively
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to problem-solve and think creatively
Ability to exercise discretion and utmost professionalism in confidential and sensitive student matters

This is a role that requires equal amounts of standing/walking and sitting at a desk for the majority of the school day.
