We are seeking a Public Events Specialistto assist with the planning, coordination, set-up, and execution of well-known community events such as Halloween ZooBoo, Christmas at the Zoo, and xZOOberance.

Our Public Events Specialist is an entry-level role within the Zoo's marketing department. The successful candidate will have the ability to multi-task, handle high pressure situations, and meet deadlines with ease. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in marketing, event planning, tourism, or a related field of study and at least one (1) year of professional, work-related experience is required. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position that requires the flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and evening shifts as required.
Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Directly responsible for Zoo events including event planning, implementation, coordination with other departments, event set-up, event activity, and post event activity.
- Directly responsible for Animals and All That Jazz summer concert series, including booking of bands through our booking agent, sound coordinator, event coordination, event set-up, event activity and post event activity. Remains onsite for event setup, event activity and post event activity.
- Assists Sr. Public Events Manager with large events - xZOOberance, Halloween ZooBoo, and Christmas at the Zoo. Remains onsite for event setup, event activity, and post event activity.
- Works closely with all Zoo departments to successfully implement events.
- Directly responsible for communicating event details to Zoo staff operating departments.
- Complete post-event evaluation reports. Conducts recap meeting with other participating departments.
- Responsible for management of on-grounds signage program.
- Supervises and trains Public Events Assistants, seasonal event support staff, and volunteers for marketing special events.
- Exposure to outdoor environmental conditions, which include inclement weather, cold and hot temperatures, and humidity.
- Must follow Universal Protection Precautions and Blood-borne Pathogens Guidelines. Possible exposure (Category C employee) to human blood-borne pathogens.
- Ability to detect, assess, identify, and observe surroundings to make sound judgments, along with the ability to communicate verbally, comprehend and decipher information accurately, and use a telephone.
- Position requires the ability to move from one area to another frequently.
- Ability to perform "medium" level physical work, which includes exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular basis to move objects.
