Volunteers of America(VOA) is a faith-based, nationwide nonprofit organization dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential. We provide hundreds of service programs, including those for seniors and people with disabilities, those experiencing homelessness, and those recovering from addiction. VOA is seeking an Intern to support our Organizational Development department to work on the National Conference planning and other meetings and duties as assigned. The selected candidate will be an integral part of the Organizational Development department and will have an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of Event Planning while working for a prestigious faith-based nonprofit organization. The person in this role must be flexible, self-directed and possess a strong entrepreneurial spirit. Ideal candidates have excellent writing and communication skills, good time management, stay on task and willing to learn new areas.
This position is full-time (up to 40 hours per week) and will be based completely On-Site
The internship is unpaid, however, a stipend is provided
Primary Responsibilities:
The focus of this internship will be to assist in the planning and execution of the 2024 VOA National Conference to be held in National Harbor, Maryland in early May 2024. The selected candidate will support everyday meeting and conference planning activities including - but not limited to - the following:
  • Assist with planning the National Conference
  • Manage the registration website on the Cvent platform
  • Manage all registration-related duties including but not limited to, website updates, registration records such as name badge management, registration substitutions, refunds, etc.
  • Manage food/beverage selection for all conference events
  • Manage VIP hotel reservations (Board of Directors & guests)
  • Manage room block performance with hotel
  • Plan other small meetings as assigned
  • Work with VP and SVP, Organizational Development on special assignments related to their area of operations

Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Working towards a degree in Event Planning or focus on relevant area
  • Knowledge and skills in Event Planning
  • Passion for making the world a better place
  • Commitment to inclusive and collaborative team culture
  • Strong written, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, stay organized and meet deadlines

Qualifications:
Physical Capabilities:
  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods
