Job Description:
Reporting to the Circulation Manager, the Evening Circulation Supervisor serves as the person in charge of the library during the evening and includes some weekend hours. The Evening Circulation Supervisor manages student workers, assists with circulation, answers reference questions, and oversees the closing duties at the end of the evening. The Evening Circulation Supervisor provides assistance with the processing of course reserves and completes some administrative duties concerning the department. On occasion the person in this position may be needed to fill in during day time hours in the absence of other staff. There are other times during the year when the person is able to work more day shifts in correlation to the library opening hours. This is a year-round position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Acts as senior Albert Alphin Library departmental representative during evening and weekend hours.
  • Manages the Albert Alphin Library student employees operation and allocation during evening and weekend hours.
  • May be called upon to stand in and/or provide backup at the Stan Getz Library in case of extenuating circumstances.
  • Ultimate troubleshooting and support resource for the facility users, assisting students and Student Employees in using and understanding the online and print library resources, as well as the printing and computer usage.
  • Designs and distributes facility announcement materials, both online and in print.
  • Answers in-person and telephone reference questions.
  • Delegates projects to student workers and ensures desk coverage as scheduled.
  • Works closely with the Circulation Manager and keeps an open line of communication to ensure coordination on all aspects of circulation services.
  • Keeps open lines of communication with library service desk staff at Berklee's Stan Getz Library and participates in cross training between the two libraries.
  • Assists patrons with sound equipment, computer, and printer/copier usage as appropriate.
  • Educates patrons about catalog and database searching.
  • Troubleshoot issues with the photocopiers and reports problems to appropriate staff.
  • Oversees closing duties at the end of the evening.
  • Resolves fines and other circulation issues; maintains oversight of Evening Circulation transactions.
  • Participates in the training of new student workers, including bindery work training.
  • Provides assistance in the processing of course reserves.
  • Experience with graphic design tools such as Canva
  • Offer evening tours of the library during orientation and other events.
  • Helps with reorganizational projects regarding the library's collections.
  • Attends Library departmental and Conservatory meetings as schedule allows.
  • Works collaboratively with other library staff members as opportunities arise.
  • Other administrative duties and projects as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Undergraduate degree in music.
  • One year of supervisory skills and demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Experience working in an academic library.
  • Solid understanding of information technology and/or library systems.
  • Working knowledge of library principles and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate user needs and seek ways of providing satisfactory solutions.

STRONGLY PREFERRED:
  • Master's degree from an accredited program in library science or current student enrolled in a library science degree program.
  • Experience working in the public services area of libraries.
  • Knowledge of one or more European languages.
  • Knowledge of dance and theater arts.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Excellent customer support skills.
  • Demonstrated ability with notation programs such as Sibelius or Finale.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communications and consultation skills in order to work effectively with students, staff and external groups, often under demanding conditions.
  • A commitment to a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion with respect for people of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Understanding of academic library standards, policies and procedures.
  • Flexibility and a high comfort level with change is a requirement for thriving in Berklee's agile, highly entrepreneurial culture.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
