About the Opportunity
This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU]

This Manager position is within Customer Engagement, and reports to the Director, Energy Efficiency Compliance and Reporting.

This position will be classified as Mobile with primary work location as home but may work at or visit a facility.

This position manages a team of professionals who are accountable for the evaluation, Measurement and Verification of Energy Efficiency and peak demand reduction program plans. This team also helps achieve the legislated or regulatory Energy Efficiency and peak demand reduction filings, targets, requirements, and other Company objectives in OH, PA, WV, MD, and NJ.

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring program performance and communicating with applicable stakeholders to recommend program changes that enhance both portfolio results and customer experience that maximizes Energy Efficiency and cost effectiveness ensuring that programs meet requirements.
  • Developing and promoting corporate positions in various stakeholder settings including comments on regulatory orders and testimony.
  • Leveraging key relationships with state officials and other external stakeholders to influence regulatory decisions that support reasonable requirements, customer affordability, customer engagement, electrification, environmental stewardship, as well as full cost recovery of program expenses, lost revenues, and performance incentives.
  • Overseeing Energy Efficiency and Demand Response capacity offerings into the PJM Regional Transmission Organization capacity market
  • Understanding the complexities of both PJM evaluation requirements and state regulatory requirements
  • Advocating on behalf of the Company on managing, analyzing, and communicating updates to state and regional protocols regarding standards for assessment of energy savings and demand response impacts for Energy Efficiency that helps maintain the Company’s ability to achieve regulatory goals.
  • Securing, coordinating, and overseeing contractors by assessing program performance in conducting evaluation, measurement, and Verification analysis on Energy Efficiency initiatives, PJM Energy Efficiency and Demand Response capacity offerings and performing cost-benefit or other technical analysis.
  • Ensure proper coordination by building relationships with Board or Commission Staff, Statewide Evaluators and other internal and external stakeholders on the various Evaluation Measurement & Verification processes that advocate for the Company on pertinent issues.
  • Actively participate in the development and training of staff to ensure continued knowledge transfer, job satisfaction, FE values adherence and career advancement.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, economics, finance, legal or related discipline with a minimum of seven years relevant work experience at increasing levels of responsibility is required.
    • In lieu of a degree, a minimum of twelve years of relevant utility or Energy Efficiency experience is required.
      • Relevant work experience will include Energy Efficiency, policy, planning, rates/regulatory, engineering, operations, legal or compliance functions
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the energy industry is required.
  • Strong business acumen and judgment.
  • Proven ability to prepare analytics that support reporting, regulatory/negotiation positions or testimony.
  • Strong leadership skills to effectively work with FE Business Units, external stakeholders and regulators on compliance and policy matters.
  • Superior written and oral communications skills to communicate effectively within all levels of the FE organization, external stakeholders, regulators, and PJM.
  • Exceptional teamwork and interpersonal skills to aid in the resolution of compliance and policy issues.
  • Strong organizational skills for planning, developing, and performing assessments and coordinating resolutions of issues.
  • Exceptional ability to review complex proposals (regulations and various industry proposals/positions) to develop positions based on the best interest of FE and customers.
