JOB SUMMARY - Paralegal
Position Overview:
An exciting opportunity awaits a dedicated and skilled Paralegal with Estate Planning experience and proficiency in Spanish to join our team at St John’s Community Health Legal Services Program. This grant-based position involves providing critical legal support in Estate Planning to our Spanish-speaking clientele in South Los Angeles. The successful candidate will contribute to outreach efforts and travel to deliver essential legal services.

Responsibilities:
- Estate Planning Support:
- Assist attorneys in the preparation of Estate Planning documents, including wills, trusts, and powers of attorney.
- Conduct client interviews and gather necessary information for document drafting
- Client Interaction:
- Communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking clients, ensuring they understand the Estate Planning process and documents.
- Provide compassionate and culturally sensitive assistance to address client concerns.
- Assist attorneys with interpretation and translation (Spanish/English)
- Assist with client intakes and helping individuals gather documents and information.
- Outreach and Education:
- Collaborate with the legal team to conduct outreach events and educational workshops in the community.
- Travel to various locations in South Los Angeles to engage with the community and promote Estate Planning services.
- Travel to clients when necessary to facilitate services.
- Document Notarization:
- Ensure all necessary documents are properly notarized.
- Obtain and maintain a California notary license if not already licensed.
- Obtain an notary license if you do not currently have such in California.
- Administrative Support:
- Maintain accurate and organized client files.
- Assist in administrative tasks related to the Estate Planning program.
- Assist clients with title transfer for the funding of the trusts as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This position has no supervisory responsibility.
Duration:
- This is a grant-based position scheduled to conclude on December 31, 2024. Funder has the option to extend the grant period 6 months.

Education & Experience
- Paralegal certification or equivalent experience.
- Proficient in Spanish (oral and written).
- Estate planning experience necessary.
- California Notary Public license or willingness/ability to obtain one.
- Sensitivity to the cultural needs of the Spanish-speaking community.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Empathy and compassion for individuals facing legal challenges and a commitment to providing high-quality services.
- Proficiency in legal research, document preparation, and case management software is necessary.
- Knowledge of community resources and experience in community outreach is beneficial.
- Experience working in underserved communities such as undocumented workers, unaccompanied minors, LGBT populations, communities of color, youth/adolescents, and those experiencing homelessness, substance abuse, and/or mental illness.
