JOB TITLE:ESSER FUNDED - Instructional Coach/Teacher Mentor [Pre-K - 2nd Grades]
REPORTS TO: Chief Academic Officer
DEPT. / SCHOOL: Academic / Bob Hope School / Assigned Campuses
WAGE / HOUR STATUS: Exempt/Full Time
PRIMARY PURPOSE
Coordinate district content area curriculum to ensure quality curriculum, instruction, and assessment for Bob Hope School students. Support teachers in an educational atmosphere that will move students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual and academic growth in accordance with charter school's philosophy, goals, and objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate in area of content
  • Montessori trained (required for Pre-K - 2nd grade levels)

Experience:
  • Minimum three (3) years of teaching experience

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Strong organizational skills, written skills, and oral communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Strong knowledge base of "best practices" and current educational research in assigned content area curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and lead content and grade level assignment trainings on related topics
  • Ability to model effective classroom strategies on research-based teaching practices
  • Knowledge of learning styles and skill in using varied teaching methods/strategies to address student learning styles in both remote and in-person settings
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of use of current technology
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty/staff, administrators, and others.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred (required for Pre-K - 2nd grade levels)

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  1. Visit classrooms and provide teachers with demonstration on instructional strategies/methods to classroom practices
  2. Support teachers in using successful instructional practices
  3. Assist with the promotion of the curriculum
  4. Coordinate the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the vertical and horizontal alignment of TEKS to plan instruction and assessment
  5. Assist teachers in aligning their curriculum with district and state standards
  6. Conduct regular walkthroughs and provide feedback to teachers and campus administration (via district platform)
  7. Develop model lessons that reflect rigor, relevance and best practices and share with teachers and staff
  8. Serve as a resource person for the staff on innovative instructional practices, current educational trends, and educational research
  9. Observe work of teaching staff to evaluate performance, and to recommend changes that could strengthen teaching skills
  10. Lead/assist with training/staff development for teachers
  11. Use a data-driven approach to guide goal setting with teachers and teacher teams
  12. Assist with Professional Learning Communities for campuses/district
  13. Meet regularly (weekly) with the campus director to review benchmarks and established data points to assess student progress towards established instructional goals.
  14. Collaborate with Chief Academic Officer and Academic Team concerning campus instructional needs and data results
  15. Communicate with campus administration concerning specific teacher needs
  16. Conduct T-TESS evaluations as necessary
  17. Maintain confidentiality
  18. Promote staff morale
  19. Other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS
Equipment/Programs Used:
Computer with appropriate software (e.g., Microsoft Teams), printer, calculator, copier, facsimile machine, overhead projector, promethean board, and other specialized equipment that is particularly unique to the teaching assignment.

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions.

ABOUT BOB HOPE SCHOOL
Bob Hope School is a growing open-enrollment public charter school (non-profit) providing parents a choice in their child's education. Bob Hope Elementary is a Montessori / Dual-Language campus. Instruction is conducted in a two-way immersion program, where teachers fluent in English teach ELA and those fluent in Spanish teach SLA and are supported by teacher aides with a strong command of both languages. Campuses are located in Port Arthur and Beaumont, Texas. The Hughen Center, Inc. is the charter holder of Bob Hope School.
