Job Description

As an ESL Teaching Tutor, you will work with students who are non-native English speakers to help them improve their language skills and succeed academically. The ideal candidate will be patient, creative, and passionate about teaching English as a second language.


Working in collaboration with and reporting to the Director of Student and Instructional Support, this key professional strives to develop and deliver an outstanding experience for students enrolled in Sewickley’s Learning Support Program.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support Lower, Middle, and Senior school students who are non-native speakers of English with learning strategies and academic support; provide individual and group instruction as appropriate; and serve as a resource for faculty
  • Collect and analyze data to inform impactful decision-making, provide strong instruction, and adjust learning plans with the students’ changing needs
  • Create and implement creative and effective lesson plans in order to meet the needs of students at varying abilities
  • Attend and contribute actively to support team meetings in both divisions
  • Collaborate with the faculty and student support team about students’ needs and progress
  • Monitor and track students' progress and communicate with parents or guardians
  • Effectively promote and support the use of relevant technologies
  • Remain current with best practices in the field of ESL instruction
  • Demonstrate a desire for constant professional and personal growth by regularly participating in and seeking out professional learning opportunities
  • Promote school life by sponsoring student clubs and activities and serving on academic committees

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Education or a related field: Master’s degree preferred
  • ESL certification or equivalent experience
  • Experience assessing, teaching, and supporting non-native speakers in high school/middle school in need of ESL services.
  • Ability to work effectively with students of various ages and proficiency levels
  • Proven success working collaboratively with faculty, staff, parents, and school leaders
  • Exceptional organizational, written, oral, and interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality
