ESG, Sustainability, and Compliance Intern

Headquartered in Livonia, MI, we have more than 20 office and manufacturing operations across 11 states. Our Marketing and Creative Services teams support many of our brands, including KraftMaid, Merillat, Medallion, and Schuler.
Internship Summary: Cabinetworks is growing its ESG, Sustainability, and Compliance programs in alignment with its value of becoming a better corporate citizen and partner for its employees, customers, and communities. The ESG, Sustainability, and Compliance Intern will support Cabinetworks' reporting, internal and external communication strategies, and supply chain by compiling information and converting them to a report to be shared with stakeholders.
The ESG, Sustainability, and Compliance intern will have:
  • Knowledge of ESG and how sustainability, environmental and climate- issues, and company values, policies, and procedures contribute to that framework.
  • An understanding of corporate ESG, social responsibility, and how well-rounded programs impact stakeholders and company growth.
  • An understanding of supply chain and manufacturing relationships. Knowledge of wood industry and/or global wood products regulations a plus.
  • Strong ethical standards to support legal and sustainable global trade in wood.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to foster and maintain collaborative relationships with Cabinetworks employees locally and around the country.
  • The ability to be organized and detail-oriented with ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills.
  • Capacity to handle sensitive and confidential company materials.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, etc.). Data management and data visualization a plus.

The ideal candidate will utilize their expertise in ESG, Sustainability, and Compliance to:
  • Work across departments to compile data and stories highlighting community impact outcomes.
  • Research and report best practices for ESG & Sustainability reporting and create tools to support implementation of best practices.
  • Participate in developing the Cabinetworks ESG & Sustainability Value Statement and the inaugural Cabinetworks Group, Inc. Sustainability Report.
  • Create and initiate a communication plan to inform stakeholders of Cabinetworks' ESG & Sustainability efforts.
  • Collaborate with Cabinetworks' reforestation partner to create programming in alignment with goals of expanding reforestation, employee engagement, and philanthropy.
  • Support due diligence and traceability efforts by collecting chain-of-custody documents, certificates, and other materials according to U.S. Lacey Act and EPA TSCA.
  • Follow the latest updates in national and global efforts in reducing deforestation and trafficking of illegal wood.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
  • Actively attending college as Junior or Senior status at an accredited university by summer 2024.
  • Pursuing a degree in Sustainability or a related field.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working with a variety of software tools.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong research and information-gathering skills. Always asks follow-up questions.
  • Excited to learn!

  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter with ability to work in a group setting and independently.
