Duties: Operates truck and trailer combination, tractors with attachments, loaders, sprayers, sweepers, forklifts, backhoes, water truck, box truck, weed eaters, blowers, toros, riding and push mowers and dump trucks to complete assigned projects such as mowing operations, debris removal. Assignment to this position presumes the operation of such equipment as a regular assignment. Performs a variety of heavy manual labor such as cutting and clearing vegetation and debris, landscaping, tree trimming, and clearing debris. Ensures the safety of City equipment, private property, and others by following proper safety procedures, watching for overhead utility lines, and checking for traffic and underground utilities. Performs routine checks and preventive maintenance on mowing equipment and hand and power tools such as checking oil, fuel levels, tires, lubricating and safety operations. Identifies and reports equipment malfunctions and cleans equipment as needed. Inspects area to be mowed for manhole covers, rocks, gas lines, and concrete chunks and other debris or obstacles. Marks them as needed for sighting for mower or tractor. Assists crew members in performing their duties. Performs required manual labor in construction and maintenance projects. Can function as a crew leader and may be assigned to train employees. Records information pertaining to work completed. Drives a City vehicle to and from job sites. Communication - Ability to listen and understand directions, information and ideas presented verbally and in writing. Exercises independence of judgment and initiative in performing the duties of the position. Ability to perform work without close supervision at times. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Works the assigned schedule and complies with City timekeeping and attendance policy. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Position may require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; kneeling, crouching and bending; pushing, pulling and reaching; and standing for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather. Valid Texas driver's license and good driving record. PREFFERED: Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License Class B (CDL)
