The Ohio Department of Health supports a hybrid teleworking model. This position may work a hybrid schedule at the discretion of the manager or supervisor, which will require occasional attendance in the office for training, meetings and other operational needs. Employees must reside within a reasonable distance to their assigned headquarters for compliance with workplace reporting requirements.

What You'll Do:

The Bureau of Environmental Health and Radiation Protection is seeking an advanced epidemiologist to investigate and collect blood testing results and analyze epidemiological situations pertaining to the Ohio Healthy Homes and Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (OHHLPPP). This position will:

  • monitor health conditions, medical monitoring and environmental samples using ODH applications
  • assist the program manager with database management and development activities to monitor public health response and licensed worker activities
  • serve as the primary resource for database design specifications, lead testing sample collection methodologies, and other environmental and medical data pertaining to children, adults, homes, schools, and childcare facilities
  • apply standard and complex statistical and epidemiologic measures and determines appropriate methods for specific needs (rates, measures of association, confidence intervals, logistic and other multivariable regression)
  • conduct complex statistical analyses of multi-agency and multi-program services linked datasets
  • create reports and databases with computer software such as MS Office, Tableau, and RedCap

Qualifications
  • Completion of graduate core program in public health or preventive medicine;
  • 3 courses or 9 mos. exp. in use of statistical computer software packages;
  • 6 mos. exp. as Epidemiology Investigator with local or federal health agency;
  • must be able to provide own transportation
  • Or
  • 6 mos. exp. as Epidemiology Investigator 2, 65762;
  • must be able to provide own transportation.

  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Applications of those who meet the minimum qualifications will be further evaluated against the following criteria:

  • Graduate or advanced degree in public health or preventive medicine
  • Courses in epidemiology - undergraduate 1 pt. each, graduate 3 pts. each
  • Courses in statistics - undergraduate 1 pt. each, graduate 3 pts. each
  • Experience in using statistical software (e.g., SAS, SPSS, STATA)
  • Experience in collecting, analyzing and interpreting statistical analysis of large datasets
  • Experience using database/spreadsheet software packages to create reports/tables/graphs (e.g., Excel)
  • Experience in managing raw clinical laboratory data
  • Experience in writing technical reports/oral presentations/training

Unless required by legislation, the selected candidate will begin at Pay Grade 33, Step 1 of the OCSEA Pay Range Schedule ($30.55 per hour), with an opportunity for pay increase after six months ($32.04) of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.
