The Epidemiology Data Developer IV develops and manages data assets and infrastructure in support of Epidemiology’s government related public health surveillance and research activities. Additionally, may support the Epidemiology group with ad-hoc data exploration and innovation. Supports Epidemiology analyst group by serving as Subject Matter Expert in a particular data type or analytic process.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Project-specific Responsibilities
- Extracting and linking data from multiple DBMS sources and creating analytic limited datasets for use by analysts.
- Scheduled data refreshes, quality control, and infrastructure ETL management including addressing data follow-up questions, issues, enhancements, etc.
- Managing data processing environment – e.g., folder design, disk space, backups, archiving
- Maintaining secure data environment that utilizes PII/encryption in infrastructure processes
- Proactively assesses opportunities to provide quality improvement and efficiency in processes
- Create/modify/execute/programs/files (typically SAS/SQL, scripting, Unix/Linux)
- Validate programs/processes (typically SAS/SQL) to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Support linkage to PHI as needed (e.g., support for medical record retrieval, National Death Index search, linking of moms to babies for pregnancy related work)
- Collaborate, support, and share data infrastructure responsibilities/tasks with other Data Developer colleague(s)
- Provide analytic advice to research team members; investigate issues with the data and reports findings
- Work with researchers and analysts to develop technical specifications documents to investigate data or implement ETL updates
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including data access requirements, infrastructure design, and ETL process steps and supporting quality control
- Assess time needed to accomplish tasks; shifts priorities/projects as needed
- Other Responsibilities
- May assist in the preparation of bids for new work, including completing (or overseeing the completion of) feasibility requests
- Serve as technical resource to other analysts. Present new programs/techniques
- May assist with interviewing, onboarding, training, or other activities that support the analyst team

Required Qualifications:
- MS in a scientific or technical field, or similar/related field, with 7+ years of professional experience in pharmaceutical/biotech, healthcare, or research setting - OR BS in a scientific or technical field, or similar/related field, with 12+ years of professional experience in pharmaceutical biotech, healthcare, or research setting
- 7+ years of advanced programming experience with SAS and SQL
- Experience working with medical and pharmacy claims and/or clinical data
- Experience working with large Database Management Systems (DBMS)
- Proven good Unix/Linux skills, including Korn Shell (KSH) scripting
- Proven comfortable collaborating, supporting, and sharing data infrastructure responsibilities/tasks/ideas with Data Developer colleague(s)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing large data (e.g., appends/refreshes, chunking, HASH tables)
- Experience implementing quality control measures and validating programs and processes in SAS and SQL
- Experience with UHG/Optum DBMS (e.g., Galaxy, ORD)
- Experience developing data assets in support of government related public health surveillance and research activities
