Overview:

Summary:
Under general direction, The Epic Iris Database Administrator maintains integrity of the application and associated system environment. Performs application upgrades including planning and scheduling, testing, and coordination. The Epic Iris Database Administrator coordinates disk space planning and management. Maintains growth statistics, space forecasts, tape libraries, and software and hardware inventory. Monitors and maintains continuity with system software licensing and maintenance agreements. Supports media management through internal methods and procedures or through offsite storage and retrieval services. Provides recommendations regarding hardware and system software planning and budgeting. Maintains production change control schedule and participates in change control. Schedules application installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures. Implements application enhancements that will improve the reliability and performance of the system. Assigns personnel to various projects, directs their activities, and evaluates their work
Qualifications:
The Epic ODBA role is a mission critical and key position in our organization with the following responsibilities:
  • Creation and management of the Epic ODBA environments
  • Installation and maintenance of administrative and monitoring tools to achieve high availability and performance
  • Monitor system performance, report on performance metrics, troubleshooting and remediating issues
  • Implementation and management of Release Authorizations (RA’s), Standard Updates (SU’s), IRIS, Epic version upgrades and Licensing to production and non-production environments
  • Configuration and maintenance of environment copies and refreshes according to the environment strategy
  • Respond to emergency and after-hours issues
  • Engage in capacity planning to ensure adequate system resources, hardware and software lifecycle management
  • Collaborate with various technical teams and Epic to ensure proactive support
  • Management and development of system scripts to improve system management tasks
  • Participate in environment and change control meetings for all planned technical activities
  • Participate in disaster recovery planned activities
  • Collaborate with various teams for creation and maintenance of Change Runbook activities, tasks, steps and timing of planned tasks/activities
  • Creation and modification of FTP Scripts
Key competencies
  • Strong Unix skills using the command-line prompt, including navigating directory structures and file manipulation
  • Experience with operating system file permissions, file system/volume group configuration, etc.
  • Knowledge of a command shell (Korn, POSIX, Bourne, or C), plus languages and utilities such as awk, sed, and Perl
  • Ability to create, understand, and follow change management processes and Epic Best Practice recommendations to ensure successful execution of critical maintenance procedures
Required certification
  • Epic Operational Database Administrator – Certified for greater than 3 years
Other information:
Bachelor s degree in related technical/business area plus 6 years of IT or business experience. 6 years of additional experience can be substituted in lieu of degree.
Advanced understanding of PC fundamentals and experience with MS-Windows, and PC office automation products.
