Jackson County Health Department is accepting applications for a full-time environmental health specialist. The primary area of responsibility will be all aspects of food service in Jackson County. This position is responsible for investigating environmental complaints, conducting various on-site inspections, and enforcing state and local public health environmental protection laws, rules, and regulations. Job duties include but are not limited to plan reviews, field inspections and complaints based on state and local codes and ordinances. Must be capable of obtaining certifications which are required for vector control, commercial pool operations, food handling and septic design/inspection. Training is provided.
This position requires proficiency in both oral and written communication. Must have the ability to operate standard office and field equipment, such as a computer (Word, Excel, Outlook) calculator, copier, telephone, cell phone, fax, and camera. Requires the ability to work and communicate with public and business owners. Basic building knowledge, able to lift 50 lbs. and have a valid driver’s license.
M-F 8am-4:30pm. Occasional weekend hours relating to festival inspections. Benefits include health insurance, PTO, retirement plan. 14 paid holidays.
