POSITION SUMMARY:
The Environmental Services Director plans, organizes, supervises, coordinates all facilities activities for all Vashon sites. Including the necessary maintenance functions for the physical structures, HVAC, mechanical, electrical systems, utilities, and grounds. Champions performance improvement activities within the agency and participates in Quality and Safety activities. Assures competency of all personnel in the Environmental Services department. Maintains efficient and effective department operation while ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulatory laws, licensing and accreditation standards and protocols.
Responsibilities:
  1. This is a Divisional Director role Division Directors implement the vision of the Executive Leadership Team. Division Directors are critical to the success of SIHB and are tasked with supervising, collaborating/communicating with Director peers, and making decisions that improve the quality-of-service delivery to relatives (patients).
  2. The Environmental Services Director leads the ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES team which includes janitorial, maintenance and security staff for all sites operated by SIHB. The position also oversees the transportation division. Transportation oversite includes maintenance of vehicles in the fleet, along with the mobile medical unit and staff drivers.
  3. Responsible for communicating needs that impact the annual operating budget, which includes personnel, equipment, materials, and supply needs.
  4. Monitors departmental personnel matters to include interviewing and the hiring of new staff, training, coaching, evaluating work performance, promotion, and counseling.
  5. Communicates and models commitment to the mission, vision, values, and Indigenous Knowledge Informed System of Care.Actively participates in and guides internal quality improvement work. Works with members proactively to drive quality improvement initiatives in accordance with the mission and strategic objectives of the organization, federal and state laws and regulations, and accreditation standards.
  6. Develops, evaluates, and implements departmental policies and procedures, goals and objectives, and standards of work for the department.
  7. Monitors repair of medical equipment, buildings and building systems.
  8. Participates collaboratively in the organizations safety committee.
  9. Maintains compliance with AAAHC, CARF, federal, state, and local standards and regulations.
  10. Participates in the development and applications of standards of quality and productivity for the Maintenance and Security Department.
  11. Administers and implements the preventative maintenance program to ensure uninterrupted operation of the entire physical plant. Monitors it applications to assure maximum effectiveness and provides appropriate documentation of the same.
  12. Coordinates the repair of equipment or recommends the replacement of or additions to medical/dental equipment as necessary.
  13. Works closely with other Divisional Directors and administration. Negotiates priorities, plans work schedules, and prepares job assignments, orders materials, supplies and parts. Recommends use of outside specialty contractors as circumstances indicate.
  14. Schedules and supervises maintenance repair work, alterations, trash removal, remodeling, minor construction, installation, and servicing of mechanical and electrical equipment and building systems.
  15. Oversees contractors and vendors work related to facilities and structural systems.
  16. Maintains an inventory of parts and supplies to maximize the operational readiness of SIHB building systems and equipment with due respect to the limitations of cost, regulations, and relative priorities.
  17. Responsible for the selection and coordination of all maintenance service contractors and ensures all contractual provisions are met along with established codes.
  18. Responsible for the implementation of policies and procedures related to safety drills (Fire, earthquake, active shooter, etc.).
  19. Oversees the daily performance and ground care of the Vashon sites to assure a uniform and satisfactory landscaped appearance.
  20. Completes annual education requirements.
  21. Always maintains and ensures HIPPA compliance.
  22. Works at maintaining a positive, good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with all SIHB staff.
  23. Maintain Test of Safety records for sprinkler system, smoke detector devices and pull stations.
  24. Effectively and consistently communicate administrative directives to personnel and encourage interactive departmental meetings and discussions.
  25. Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  26. At all times demonstrates cooperative behavior with supervisors, subordinates, colleagues, clients, and the community.
  27. Works extremely well under pressure; meets multiple and often competing deadlines.

BUILDING AND GROUNDS:
  1. Ensures Seattle Indian Health Board is a safe and welcoming environment for relatives.
  2. Ensures lawns mowed and neatly trimmed.
  3. Ensures shrubs neatly trimmed.
  4. Ensures trash receptacles emptied regularly as needed.
  5. Ensures parking lots clear of debris.
  6. Ensures parking lots, walks and outside walking areas outside hospital clear of ice and snow during winter months at all sites.

Qualifications
Requirements
  1. Bachelors Degree in related discipline or
  2. Seven (7) years of experience in management with a similar position
  3. Computer literacy.
  4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  5. Must have strong performance orientation and skillful strategic thinking, establish clear expectations; and continuously measure performance.
  6. Must have successful management level experience in staff supervision and administration; must have the ability to train, coach, mentor, and motivate staff.
  7. Experience working collaboratively across functions and services to achieve sustainable outcomes.
  8. Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and effective manner verbally and in writing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Masters degree
  2. Understanding of the American Indian/Alaska Native community and health issues as well as those of the surrounding community.
  3. Experience working collaboratively with physicians and other clinicians.

Expert knowledge of the principles and practices of health planning and management as well as working knowledge of the purpose, organization, and policies of community health systems.
