Position Summary
Responsible for integration of environmental issues and requirements into project level documents under the direction of the ES&H Manager, including permit applications, design specifications and criteria, construction plans and schedules, bid specifications, and subcontract packages for the Project. Has technical responsibility for interpreting complex requirements, evaluating and applying appropriate scientific/environmental engineering principles, and formulating scopes of work, plans, and methodologies suitable for achieving and maintaining compliance with environmental requirements. Provides technical assistance to other ES&H and Sustainability personnel assigned to the Project.

Must be willing to work a flexible schedule if required, including, but not limited to nightshift or split shift.
This position has a work scope that includes field inspections and the physical ability to conduct field inspections which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.)

Position Summary

Responsibilities
- Receives supervision and work assignments from the ES&H Manager
- Assists in developing and managing the implementation of the Bechtel scope of Project services related environmental management program, including the key execution documents - Environmental Management Plan, Environmental Monitoring Plan, Environmental Emergency Preparedness Plan, Competence/Training, and project specific mitigation procedures that are compliant with ISO 14001
- These plans will also be in accordance with Energy GBU Environmental Management System (EMS), and project contract requirements
- Participates in meetings with customer, project team members, and contractors/subcontractors to advise them of environmental requirements that may affect project design, schedule, and cost
- Provides technical support and assistance directly to construction supervision and subcontractors in planning and executing field activities in accordance with the project environmental requirements
- Conducts environmental compliance inspections of project construction activities to monitor compliance with environmental requirements including contractual commitments, permits, and key execution documents
- Carries out audits of environmental compliance implementation by the delivery packages
- Prepares scopes of work for environmental subcontractors and oversees their tasks and work products
- Tracks environmental compliance with approved plans, laws/regulations, permits, and contract requirements
- Prepares sustainability documentation as appropriate for the project and its location
- Under the direction of the ES&H Manager, is responsible for drafting environmental awareness training programs and inspection reports
Qualifications & Skills
Basic Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university or college in an applicable technical discipline such as environmental science, ecology, biology, natural resources, or environmental engineering (or related discipline) and 5+ years of related experience
Additional Qualifications
- Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations and experiences of regulatory permitting processes
- Working knowledge of international financial institution environmental requirements and guidelines (e.g., IFC, World Bank) in developing EIAs and implementing mitigation measures for large industrial projects
- General knowledge of construction methods and environmental mitigation practices as related to large-scale (industrial) projects
- Experience with implementing industry Best Management Practices (BMP) standards on environmental compliance, emissions and effluent, hazardous materials, waste, Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) and restoration is desired
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a project team
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Skilled in working collaboratively with others in a complex integrated environment
- Proficiency in use of Microsoft 365 (Office)
- Skilled in oral and written communication
- Ability to explain, explore, and discuss environmental issues with range of stakeholders
