Job Summary:


This recruitment is seeking to fill the role of a Project Manager - Hydrogeologist 2 or 3 within the Aquifer Protection Program and in the Individual Permitting Unit. This Unit serves permitting functions for Mining, Wastewater and Industrial facilities that have discharges that are regulated to prevent degradation of Arizona's vital water resources. We are currently looking for a candidate that is technically strong in project management, well organized and has a background in hydrogeologic principles in both academia as well as work experience. It is also important that the selected candidate has a passion for the Agency's mission and a strong desire to grow and progress in their career.

This position is available for remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona (including virtual office arrangements).

Job Duties:

This position will be directly responsible for managing projects and/or conducting technical reviews within the Aquifer Protection Program Permit Unit of the Groundwater Protection Section. More specifically, the selected candidate will manage permit application review and approval processes relative to project management and hydrogeologic reports in the technical permit review process.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):


Knowledge
Knowledge of mining processes, potential environmental impacts, and remedial practices
Knowledge of Agency policies and processes, State and Federal environmental regulations, environmental sciences and research, AZ sources of pollution, best practices for preventing the release of pollutants, environmental research, investigation techniques and statistical analysis, principles of ground and surface water flow, principles of fate and transport of chemicals in ground and surface water.
Skills
Experience preparing and presenting technical presentations to internal project team
Experience conducting field observations and site visits.
Experience with LEAN concepts is preferred
Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
Works well and seamlessly in a highly motivated team with a focus on technical excellence
Experience and familiarity with complex aquifer systems: fractured bedrock, basin fill, confined and unconfined
Abilities
Ability to understand and apply environmental rules and statues; to follow guidance documents, standard operating procedures, and other technical instructions in performance of tasks; to prepare clear, concise and accurate reports; and to summarize completed tasks and/or monitoring data orally and in written communication
Ability to manage technical, permitting, and continuous improvement projects to meet agency and project metrics, and achieve agency outcomes within budget and schedule limitations
Ability to communicate complex hydrologic principles in simple terms to a diverse audience of internal and external stakeholders
Analyze environmental groundwater concentration data for basic trends
Analyze hydrogeologic data to understand contaminant transport characteristics
Experience and familiarity with complex aquifer systems: fractured bedrock, basin fill, confined and unconfined
Mentorship of junior level staff (Level 3 requirement)

Selective Preference(s):

Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, hydrology, geological engineering or water resources
Level 2: 2 - 4 years of experience (Master's degree or Doctorate may substitute for 2 years of experience)
Level 3: 5 years' experience (Master's degree may substitute for 2 years of experience, Doctorate for 4 years of experience). Project Managers: 3-5 years' experience
Geologist-in-Training or Registered Geologist registration or ability to obtain registration after employment
