Job description

Environmental Health and Safety Officer

*Reports Directly to Health, Safety and Environmental Manager (“HSE Manager”)

Daily Rounds:

· Conduct multiple daily rounds of the vessel in the dry dock using each day’s “Plan of the Day” as a guideline for priority areas. Specific focus should be dedicated to areas where (1) welding is being performed, (2) tank-related work, and (3) work taking place at a height or where fall protection is required. Note: regardless of the activity noted on the “Plan of the Day,”, all areas of the ship must be surveyed for general hazards and cleanliness issues.

· Conduct at least one daily round in the dry dock itself, and more frequently based on type and quantity of work taking place. The dry dock is to include the pump room and caisson.

· Conduct multiple daily rounds of the south pier and lay down area, including rounds on board any vessel being worked on.

· Conduct multiple daily rounds of the warehouses and facility, paying particular attention to stanchions and chains around the dry dock for possible damage.

· Conduct fire extinguisher inspections once per month. The inspections must be at least 20 days apart (but no more than 40 days apart). Extinguisher inventory to be used to ensure all extinguishers are inspected and signed off on.

· Monitor “Hazmat area” daily for cleanliness and ensure that all containers are properly stored and labeled.

· Perform periodic inspections of equipment as required, including fall arrest equipment, personal floatation devices, lifting equipment (hoists, slings, chains, etc.) and document findings.

· Collaborate with HSE Manager to develop weekly schedule, ensuring safety oversight on weekends and holidays.

Reporting Duties:

· Attend daily 0700 Production Meeting.

· Report significant safety concerns to HSE Manager immediately.

· Document all findings each day including corrective action taken to mitigate or correct hazards and risks, summarized in a “Daily Safety Report” to be submitted to BDD Management.

· Document all safety infractions/incidents by employees and subcontractors in Disciplinary Action Forms for presentation to HSE Manager – and final submission to BDD Management.

· Generate Incident Reports for all job-site injuries, equipment damage and “near-miss” events.

· Manage COVID cleaning efforts where required on vessels and facility’s overall COVID response.

Record Keeping/Education

· Maintain a filing system of safety infractions and incident reports.
