Minimum Qualifications Four years of experience in technician work in aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical, or sanitary engineering technology; environmental technology; geology or geology technology; or as a surveyor or a drafter; OR graduation from high school and one year of qualifying experience;OR graduation from a high school technical education program in aeronautics, architectural drafting, chemistry, electricity, electronics, mechanical design and construction, technical structural drafting and design, technical instrumentation and control systems, or computer circuitry; OR 18 college semester credit hours in any combination of the following: engineering, geology, environmental science, natural or physical science, drafting, mathematics, or surveying.
Duties Description Provide support to the Regional Flood Control Engineer (RFCE) including:1) Office Relateda. Assist the RFCE and Elmira office support staff with file management and reporting for the program.b. Assist the RFCE with review of conduit video inspections.c. Assist the RFCE with volunteer flood patroller trainings and Army Corps of Engineers inspections and site visits. d. Assist with reviewing Article 16 permit applications and preparing permits.e. In the event of a flooding event emergency, assist with other DOW needs as appropriate and available.2) Field Relateda. Perform construction documentation and reporting.b. Perform area and volume measurements and calculations.c. Conduct dam safety site visits and reporting.d. Site safety is critical at construction sites, dams, and waterways.Preferred Skills/Experience• Proficient in Microsoft WORD and EXCEL• Ability to read and comprehend design plans/maps and specifications• Prior experience/training in site safety• Positive public and government interaction skills• Problem solving• Ability and willingness to learn
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain. Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. May be required to lift and move objects up to 30 pounds. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview. This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date 3/31/2025. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
