Overview

Na Alii is currently seeking a Environmental Deputy Construction Project Manager with working experience in managing, estimating, and performing earthwork, stream restoration, flood recovery, post fire mitigation, and Abandoned Mine Land (AML) projects. The Environmental Deputy Construction Project Manager must have a strong ability to interact professionally with colleagues, subcontractors, clients, and project stakeholders in the ever-changing environment of a field construction project, while maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The Environmental Deputy Construction Project Manager's primary role will be to assist the Project Manager with project execution and personnel management as well as review and analyze project bid opportunities, drawings and specifications, and client requirements. The Environmental Deputy Construction Project Manager will also be required to serve as a Site Superintendent directing field staff, subcontractors, and suppliers; communicate with clients and stakeholders when on site; and remain flexible to resolve field issues that may occur. Na Alii has a flat management structure, and the Environmental Deputy Construction Project Manager has wide authority to resolve issues in the field without extensive discussion with upper management.

Responsibilities

  • Project management and proposal assistance:
    • Project management may include managing vendors/subcontractors, working with the field team to ensure schedules and deliverables are met, working with the Project Manager to track project performance (financials, schedule, permits, POs/subcontracts, etc.)
    • Management of field personnel that may include performance reviews, timesheets, expense report review, and professional development
    • Assist with identifying and pursuing Environmental Construction bid opportunities. This may include preparing cost estimates (e.g., estimating equipment, labor, and material costs), attending pre-bid meetings, sourcing vendors, etc.)
  • Site management:
    • Planning, scheduling, and executing field projects and tasks, and directing field staff
    • Professionally interacting with clients in the field
    • Responsible for operating heavy field equipment and capable of standing for long periods of time
Qualifications

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience in subcontractor/vendor management including: requesting/analyzing quotes, setting up purchase orders/subcontracts, reviewing invoices and change order requests.
  • Experience supervising personnel.
  • Experience preparing pricing and technical approach for AML, earthwork, stream restoration, post fire mitigation, and aquatic organism passage bids. 
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and Microsoft Project
  • Strong mechanical and assembly skills.
  • Attention to detail to organize and effectively manage multiple tasks and meet project and permit requirements.
  • Works well in a team, communicates well both verbally and in written form, and takes initiative to solve problems.
  • Understanding of mine safety closure and land restoration.
  • Experience developing drainage infrastructures.
  • Familiarity with soft and hard surface trail construction. 
  • Welding experience. 

Education and Experience:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in natural sciences, construction management, engineering, water resources, or related field is a plus.
  • Minimum of (5) five years' experience required operating heavy equipment (excavator, loader, bulldozer) on earthwork projects, including significant experience involving one or more of the following project types: watershed restoration, AML, water storage improvements, site revegetation, stream hydraulic and habitat restoration, stormwater infrastructure improvements, and similar work.
  • Experience performing construction work for government clients (federal, state, or local agencies) is a plus.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean motor vehicle record.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift or move 50 pounds regularly in varying work environments and terrain. 
  • Must be able to access sites in remote areas on foot.

Work location expectation:

  • When not working on field project, expected to work in the office at least 2 days per week.

 

The Nakupuna Companies use a market-based compensation strategy to ensure that our employees are compensated within applicable market ranges commensurate with multiple factors, including but not limited to the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability, organizational requirements, and position location. The projected compensation range for this position is $60,000.00 to $90,000.00 (annualized USD). The salary range displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Nakupuna Companies total compensation package for employees.
