Depending upon assignment, duties may include inspecting and monitoring storm sewer systems; responding to hazmat incidents and monitoring cleanup; collecting field samples (such as bacteriological, storm water, stream, restaurant and industrial) for laboratory testing; selecting and preparing chemical additives for sample preservation; collecting and recording flow data; cleaning and repairing analytical and testing equipment; and maintaining related files; or, if assigned to the Lead and Copper Program, identifying composition of public and private customer service lines; inputting service line data to complete water service inventory; creating work orders associated with all service line assessments; collecting and transporting water samples from residences, schools and daycare facilities; and completing follow-up assessments on vendor service line IDs and galvanized pipe. A high school diploma or GED, plus some college or specialized training in a related field, and two years of relevant experience are required. Must have, or be able to obtain, an appropriate driver's license; have or obtain within first six months of employment, Class D Water and Class I Wastewater licenses; and have or obtain within 15 months, Class C Water Distribution and Wastewater II licenses. Schedule includes required participation in 24-hour, on-call rotation. Night and weekend hours are sometimes required. A résumé must be submitted with application.
PAY GRADE GG15 / FULL PAY RANGE $22.41 - $31.60 PER HOUR

  • Individuals hired into this position will receive $1000 after their first 30 days of employment provided there are no documented attendance or disciplinary issues.
  • Employees that successfully complete their 6-month orientation period will receive an additional one-time payment of $1000 provided there are no documented attendance or disciplinary issues.
  • Employees that successfully complete one year of employment without
    documented attendance or disciplinary issues will receive an additional one-time payment of $1000.
  • The maximum amount of hiring incentive that an individual employee may receive is $3,000.
