Job description

Do you have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent with a minimum of 10+ years' experience in plant quality/food safety/sanitation/microbiology and a minimum of 3-years' experience evolving and leading multisite sanitation program?
Darigold is looking for a Manager of Sanitation to lead in the development and deployment of Darigold's Sanitation and Pest Management programs and provide leadership, guidance, and technical support across 12 manufacturing sites. This position requires the ability to travel up to 50-75% of the time.
The Sanitation Manager must possess the desire and ability to plan, organize, and direct quality assurance personnel and programs to assure that plant products conform to Darigold defined product quality standards, as well as, Federal, State, and local standards of product identity, safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's).As a member of the Plant team the Sanitation Manager will be a true strategic partner in the Operations Division. The Sanitation Manager's role is to serve as a resource for plant management in the areas of testing, GMP's, sanitation, and quality program administration.
This position will ensure that the Sanitation and Pest Management programs across the Darigold organization are accurately developed with training, implemented, monitored, assessed, and exposed to continuous improvement activities that are consistent with established food regulations and best practices to ensure the production of safe, wholesome foods.
What You Will Do
  • Develop and implement a strategic sanitation program, policies, and processes to ensure practices are compliant to regulatory, customer and Darigold policies.
  • Develop, deploy and/or trend metrics and data (i.e., pre-op results, MSS, ATP, food safety audits, customer complaints, etc.) to drive continuous improvement with measurable results.

  • Provide governance across 12 sites to ensure product protection through the identification and closure of gaps around sanitary design, sanitary practices, and pest control.
  • Drive change and continuous improvement as it relates to Sanitation culture, principles, practices, and their effective implementation across 12 sites.

  • Function as the Darigold subject matter expert for all sanitation and pest control activities
  • Support site investigations and resolution of food safety incidents associated with sanitation. This includes root cause analysis support and activities for preventative measures.
  • Partner with plant/corporate engineering, maintenance and operations leads to ensure all enterprise driven capital plans ensure sanitary design objectives to include food safety improvements related to sanitary design.
  • Effectively communicate and work with both plant and cross-functional plant teams to problem solve, troubleshoot, and resolve concerns related to sanitation and pest control.
  • Set standards for maintaining CIP equipment, sanitation assurance, sanitation PMs, continuous improvement, and cost optimization programs.
  • Provide technical and scientific expertise to guide and coach the plants towards compliance and situation resolution.

  • Identify, develop, and support execution of sanitation and food safety applications, controls, processes, and best practices (policies and procedures) across all 12 Darigold manufacturing sites in alignment with Darigold requirements, Industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.

  • Drive standardization, governance, and continuous improvement for all plants Master Sanitation Schedules (MSS).
  • Identify opportunities for current equipment and facility opportunities based on food safety and risk.
  • Support plant sanitation in the effective use of chemicals, COP and CIP cleaning processes, Dry Sanitation processes, Environmental sanitation, and Sanitary design.
  • Work with 3rd party providers and others to maximize technical expertise, optimize supplier products, information, equipment, research new cleaning technologies and techniques and coordinate trials.
  • Conduct chemical assessments of all new chemicals to be used at plants.
  • Work with Safety to ensure alignment between human safety and food safety for all chemical usage.
  • Oversee and partner with pest management and chemical provider to provide governance and maximize technical expertise and drive results.
  • Provide support for relevant food safety programs (i.e., pathogen environmental monitoring, construction planning, capex planning, etc.)
  • Maintain knowledge of current and evolving sanitation best practices by working closely with relevant industry, peers, and/or regulatory groups to remain current in sanitation principles to ensure the most relevant information is incorporated into Darigold sanitation practices.
  • Spend significant time on the various facilities floor observing process workflow, equipment operations, and that sanitation guidelines are being followed.

What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with a minimum of 10+ years' experience in plant quality/food safety/sanitation/microbiology.
  • Minimum of 3-years' experience evolving and leading multisite sanitation program(s).
  • Experience working with maintenance, engineering, quality, and manufacturing.
  • Expert in Master Sanitation practices
  • Experience successfully addressing sanitation challenges.
  • Knowledge of chemical safety
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with diverse sanitation applications (CIP, COP) and sanitary design principles
  • Ability to travel up to 50-75% of the time. Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible company representative.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Excellent knowledge of food manufacturing processes and food safety
  • Advanced knowledge in using a full range of statistical and analytical tools and fundamentals.
  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • Excellent understanding of microbiological organisms and their impact on process design, sanitary design, and Sanitation.
  • Experience with government regulatory requirements in the processing of food.
