Haskell’s Design & Consulting Team unites architecture, engineering, and consulting professionals from across industries and geographies. Our diverse and innovative team allows Haskell to serve our clients with multiple project delivery methods including design-build, engineer-procure-construct, fee-for-service, or consulting services. The Design & Consulting Team serves a diverse set of markets including food and beverage, consumer products, aviation and aerospace, civil infrastructure, healthcare, and Federal Government projects. In this role, you will be responsible for assigned project designs, coordination, and associated construction administration by a Licensed Professional in Fire Protection. You'll also work to fulfill experience requirements for eligibility to take the professional licensing exam. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Application of Knowledge of Building Systems
    • Works with Project or Senior Fire Protection Engineer to ensure understanding and compliance with owner’s building program requirements and facility or corporate standards related to the Fire Protection systems design
    • Learns to confirm and review applicable codes and standards such as but not limited to the International Building Code Council and NFPA
    • Given the scope of design services, the owner’s building program and facility standards, building code research and relevant industry standards, works with the Project or Senior Fire Protection Engineer to establish and document the systems basis of design and in doing so provide clarification, qualifications and design assumptions regarding relevant design issues
    • Assist Project or Senior Fire Protection Engineer and works with building/facility owner to ensure that the appropriate cost-effective systems/products are utilized in their facility
    • Assist Project or Senior Fire Protection Engineer and works with building owner and construction management team to validate construction cost and provide value engineering options as may be necessary
    • May obtain support from the Lead Fire Protection Engineer or Senior Fire Protection Engineer for assistance to determine engineering and design building requirements
  • Design
    • Ability to utilize design analysis and modeling software and incorporate designs into project documents/models
    • Establishes the Fire Protection criteria through code research and the client’s criteria
    • Selects and schedules Fire Protection equipment
    • Designs the layout and sizing, of Fire Protection piping
    • Creates a complete and accurate set of constructions documents including cover sheet, floor plans, details and sections, and equipment schedules
  • Construction Support
    • Assists field inspections with the Lead Fire Protection Engineer and/or Senior Fire Protection Engineer
  • Project Management
    • Coordinates the work performed by the other project staff
  • Planning, Scheduling and Profitability
    • Assists in compiling a complete design package issue (criteria drawings)
    • Works with project’s Lead Fire Protection Engineer and/or Senior Fire Protection Engineer to ensure that the project schedule will be met, and complete documents are provided for each submission
    • Designs project within provided design budget and track additional hours utilized, including when scope is expanded
  • Professional Development
    • Proactively seeks in-house/out-of-house training to improve and develop design skills
  • Leadership
    • Works as part of the larger team, and not as an independent island
    • Is flexible and willing to quickly move between projects as needed to assist in meeting project schedules

Education/Experience:

  • Accredited Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Passed the EIT/FE examination preferred

Specific Knowledge, Skills, License, Certifications:

  • Preparing to become a Licensed Professional Engineer.

Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements:

 

While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, and arm, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
