Entry-Level Engineer - Civil & Environmental
We are now seeking an entry-level civil/environmental engineer to work independently and in collaboration with our engineering department to take water distribution projects from conceptual design to design completion. This position also supports and assists in source water protection, supply capacity development, water treatment conveyance and storage, and asset management. Primary responsibilities include:
- Assist in the planning and designing of water distribution projects, including the preparation of plans, specifications, and contract documents. Prepare detailed plans and specifications for project bidding. Evaluate the distribution network using hydraulic modeling, master plans, and fire flow tests.
- Prepare and interpret project plans, schematic drawings, and layouts.
- Evaluate treatment processes in both surface water and groundwater systems.
- Research and develop new equipment technology.
- Perform pump efficiency evaluations.
- Support with the maintenance of “Vertical Systems,” asset management, and CMMS initiatives.
- Assist with the estimating and oversight of construction and start-up of water supply-related capital improvements.
- Assist with the efforts to collect hydrologic data from water sources, including surface and groundwater, for evaluation of both quantity and quality.
- Assist with the Company’s well head protection and watershed management efforts.
- Technical support for the Company’s water withdrawal permits and other environmental permits associated with water supply.
- Prepare written reports to regulatory agencies as required.
- Review developer proposals. Provide technical supervision and support to engineering staff and subcontractors.
- Participate in the Company’s Asset Management Program.
- Participate in state and regional water works organizations
To qualify for this role, you must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or equivalent.
- An ability/desire to learn new things.
- A comfort level with technology related to engineering, GIS, environmental data, and water treatment
- Comfort with both field and office assignments
- Functional exposure to GIS Software, GPS Survey Technology, and Water Distribution Modeling Software
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, regulators, and employees of the organization.
- Strong comfort level with MS 365 software applications.
- Ability to obtain Engineer-In-Training certification is required.
- Ability to obtain a Water Distribution certification level II with support and training.
- Valid state driver’s license with good driving record.
