Are you an Enrolled Agent looking for a positive change in your accounting career? Look no further, The Mercadien Group is hiring for a Supervisor to become part of our Tax team. The applicant should be able to demonstrate a broad knowledge of GAAP, Tax Law and Tax Compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews key complex returns for risks and for opportunities to provide additional service
  • Manages work flow by developing a budget for processing returns
  • Communicates with taxpayer when significant issues arise in return preparation
  • Demonstrates understanding of IRS and State Tax Practices
  • Responds to IRS and State Tax notices
  • Performs and documents research of complex tax issues using all of the research tools available
  • Prepares written communication of tax planning recommendations
  • Reviews returns to identify planning opportunities for clients
  • Applies change in accounting method requirements and tax accounting methods for C Corporation
  • Understands distributions and tax-free organizations for S Corporation
  • Understands Partnership and other pass-through entities; understands partnership accounting, at-risk rules, basic and passive loss limitations
  • Recognizes basic features of Keoghs, 401(k) s, SEPs for Qualified Plans
  • Recognizes business actions that require application of international tax rules and treaties; understands application of Foreign Tax Credit; demonstrates common US Tax incentive for doing business internationally
  • Understands individual foreign reporting and disclosure requirements
  • Applies basics of estate and gift taxation; applies basics of income tax accounting for fiduciaries including understanding types of fiduciary and related impact on compliance
  • Facilitates debriefing
  • Provides coaching and mentoring to staff
  • Participates and instructs in firm wide training
  • Participates in team-wide production planning

Requirements
  • Must hold or be pursuing CPA license or Enrolled Agent Certification
  • Must possess above average computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism
  • Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in written format. A strong command of the English language and grammar is necessary
  • Must be available to work professional hours between 9am and 5pm, and additional hours as needed.

  • Develops understanding of client's business by learning about competitors and distribution channels, organizational structure, and operational issues
  • Initiates discussion with engagement team and client to ensure expectations are met
  • Establishes client respect and responds to client inquiries and requests

Personnel
  • Works as a team, and treats others with respect
  • Responds positively to instruction and feedback and gives upward and downward feedback where possible
  • Understands the Firm policies regarding Respectful Workplace and follows them
  • Sets annual career goals and objectives
  • Obtains and maintains appropriate state license(s) and other credentials: Attends CPE as required by the licensing boards, the Firm and related specialized industries

Promotion
  • Begins to develop contacts into a network that has business potential
  • Attends training related to sales and service
  • Proactively seeks out opportunities to participate in extended services

Administration
  • Uses technical resources available and possesses adequate knowledge of software
  • Manages administrative responsibilities including schedule, VPM and backlog reports
  • Develops a higher level of tax knowledge and understanding of more complex structures and transactions in practice areas including S-Corporation, Partnership, Fiduciaries, Individual Gift and Estate matters
