The Exus Project Development department is seeking an Engineering/Technology Intern for our Summer 2024 intern program. This is a paid full-time position based out of our Corporate HQ office in downtown Pittsburgh, PA. The anticipated duration will be approximately 8 weeks (June to August 2024 timeframe). Duration, start and end dates of the program are flexible to meet candidate needs.
Job Summary:
Working under the supervision of the VP of Technology Development and the Director of Energy Storage and Strategy, the intern will support the planning, design, and implementation of utility-scale Solar and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This opportunity will directly contribute to the success of project development on specific projects including the technical analysis of Solar PV and BESS sites currently under development and/or in consideration for acquisition. The ideal candidate will be a resilient learner with the ambition to gain experience in project development, research and analysis, specifically related to Utility scale Solar PV and hybrid PV+BESS technology.
Projects and Responsibilities:
The Intern will conduct a thorough review of Solar Module, Inverter, Tracker and BESS technology, including:
- Vendor technical evaluation, score carding, company due diligence
- Bankability
- Safety
- Technical Support
- Product-market fit
- Approved Vendor criteria
- Technology readiness (new Module technology and BESS related battery chemistries and alternatives)
- Support a thorough market overview of existing and upcoming Solar PV and BESS technology (including lithium ion and other chemistries for BESS).
- Consolidate and improve vendor due diligence checklists and scorecards.
- Establish quantitative and qualitative rubric for vendor evaluation, selection, approval, and procurement.
- Work with vendors and members of the development team to coordinate the collection, organization, and formatting of technical information.
- Evaluate market needs, match with appropriate energy storage technologies, and identify key technical or regulatory barriers.
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program in engineering, environmental science, Renewable Energy, energy economics, finance, computer science, or a related field.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, seek guidance, collaborate across cross-functional teams, and work independently to achieve project goals.
- Strong interest in Renewable Energy, Solar PV and energy storage technologies.
- Strong attention to detail and high level of organization, able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, cloud data management); familiarity with additional software tools used in engineering and project management (e.g., Gantt schedulers, project planners, Power BI, Python/R/sequel) preferred.
- Prior knowledge or experience in Renewable Energy, energy storage, project development, power systems, regulatory compliance, and permitting processes preferred.
- Ability to be present in the Pittsburgh, PA office for the duration of the intern program.
