Brentwood Engineering Department
Starting salary is $63k - $69k depending on experience.
Up to 5% salary increase after successful completion of six-month probationary period.
Plus: Transportation Allowance up to $2000/year to be distributed equally over 26 pay periods annually.

The City of Brentwood, located in scenic Williamson County, is considered one of the most desirable suburban locations in Tennessee with a population of approximately 46,000 residents.
As the Engineering Technician you will be responsible for assisting City Engineers in performing technical functions to ensure construction activities meet City regulations. You'll also be responsible for field inspection services, geotechnical testing, providing technical support, construction complaint resolution, drawing review, performing site inspections, data collection, and estimating project costs.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists the City Engineer in inspections of erosion control, excavation and grading activity, drainage system installation, roadway construction and MS4 compliance.
- Leads on-site inspections for commercial and residential projects including excavation and grading activity, drainage system installation, roadway construction, and erosion control inspections.
- Ensures project field compliance with stormwater management policies.
- Conducts geotechnical tests (compaction, density, etc.) on city road projects, public infrastructure in new developments, and various other construction projects.
- Maintains detailed notes of inspections and any noted deficiencies and communicates those with developers and contractors.
- Provides correspondence with other staff and stakeholders as needed.
The ideal candidate:
- Has proven experience in construction, storm water drainage, and/or roadway construction.
- Understands computer aided drafting/plan reading software and GIS mapping.
- Is detail-oriented in review of project schedules, budget, correspondence, quality assurance in design and construction, and project status results.
- Has the ability to partner well with others internally and externally.
- Is willing to develop themselves professionally and stay up-to-date open to continuous learning.
Minimum Training and Experience Required
Associates Degree in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, construction management or related field required with five years' experience in construction, storm water drainage, roadway construction, and estimating; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must be certified in use of low-level radiation testing equipment or be able to become certified within 6 months (i.e. Radiation Safety Officer Training & Nuclear Gauge Safety Training). TDOT Roadway Paving Certification Training and TDEC Level 1 Training a plus. Valid Drivers License required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines and tools which includes a computer, printer, facsimile machine, copy machine, calculator, telephone, drafting tools, surveyor's level, measuring wheel, tape measure, etc. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to ten pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for sedentary work.

FORM/SPATIAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape, visually with office equipment.
MOTOR COORDINATION: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in using automated equipment.
MANUAL DEXTERITY: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, office equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
COLOR DISCRIMINATION: May require the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.
INTERPERSONAL TEMPERAMENT: Requires the ability to deal with people (i.e. staff, supervisors, general public, and officials) beyond giving and receiving instructions such as in interpreting departmental policies and procedures. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate stress when confronted with an emergency related to the job of Engineering Technician.
PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION: Requires the ability to talk and/or hear: (talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words). (Hearing - perceiving nature of sounds by ear).
