Job description

We have an outstanding Contract position for an Engineering Technical Leader FPGA/Firmware Design to join a leading Company located in the Fort Worth, TX surrounding area.

The Engineering Technical Leader FPGA/Firmware Design works as a member of the electronics design team to produce control systems for engines, locomotives, ships, and other vehicles in commercial freight, marine, and mining applications. The engineer will provide consultation and technical direction to the engineering community on near-term and longer-range projects. Strong program leadership skills are required to manage the internal and external resources to deliver program goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop FPGA-based control, processing, and communication solutions in an embedded real-time control environment utilizing the latest Xilinx/Znyq/Artix technology and Vivado development tools
  • Work with electronics hardware, software, and system teams to define product requirements and develop FPGA vision and roadmap for innovation
  • Develop distributed digital CPU core technology involving Freescale microprocessors and Xilinx FPGA's/CPLD's
  • Partition processing, communication, and control tasks for optimized core efficiency and real-time software/firmware task management simplification
  • Develop and articulate FPGA/digital core vision and work with internal and external teams to establish FPGA-based platform technology and culture
  • Establish performance and robustness in terms of sensor and peripheral sampling, stimulation and control using Nyquist, sampling methods, state machine control, data control, microprocessor interfacing, and interrupt design and management
  • Establish design and quality methods, specifications, documentation, verification, test benches, best practices, and VHDL/Verilog coding standards
  • Serve as a recognized leader in defining the state of the art in one's own technical specialty in order to anticipate, develop, and apply technology to current and future business opportunities

Basic Hiring Criteria:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronics or Computer Engineering
  • Minimum 7 years of experience designing digital logic, microprocessor-based system design, low-level software/firmware development in a real-time embedded environment
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the full life cycle of firmware (FPGA) development, verification, and validation in system, vehicle, or engine control unit
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in VHDL/Verilog coding for FPGA & CPLDs

Desired Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Electronics or Computer Engineering
  • 15 years of experience with analog and digital hardware design, digital signal processing, and FPGA design
  • Experience with FPGA-based system design, including excellent digital design skills, design of state machines, soft cores, clock domain management, I/O interfaces, use of lookup tables, and ability to design reusable modules
  • Firm understanding of electronic schematics, printed circuit board design, and test, as well as hands-on experience on simulation/design validation tools preferably ModelSim
  • Excellent software/firmware experience, device drivers, Linux and QNX experience
  • Experience with Xilinx Zynq programmable ARM-based SOC and FPGA design suite, including Vivado and ModelSIm
  • Experience writing board support package (BSP) and/or initial program load (IPL) firmware
  • Experience with vehicle engine control applications and networks such as CAN, Ethernet, ArcNet, etc
