Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)
Provides engineering support for Capital and Expense projects (Industrial Construction). Supports and assists Project Managers, Construction Managers, Operations Management, Engineers, and developers to develop and advance power generation and related industrial process projects which include Natural Gas Fossil Fuel, Geothermal, Gas Separation Carbon Capture, Bulk Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and Solar. Responsible for managing the engineering and construction activities necessary to plan, design, license, construct and start-up and commissioning, including plant interfaces and shutdowns for tie-ins. Manages projects from original concept through final implementation and is responsible for administrative/operational/technical leadership of the project(s) including managing of budget.
The Engineer Project Manager will assist the Team with all activities providing focused input to the project plan and coordination of project deliverables across all phases of the project, including Development, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning, and start-up. Using project management, leadership, and strategic skills, assists in developing project scopes, and project execution plans, and coordinates cost estimates, budgets, and schedules with the project controls team.
Coordinates with all project resources to meet all project milestones and execute projects from conception to start-up, and commissioning, including plant interfaces and shutdowns for tie-ins. While technical expertise and ability to execute projects are essential, equally important is the willingness to work day-to-day issues with Safety, Environmental, Construction, Production, and Maintenance in a collaborative manner.
Job Responsibilities
- Competent to work at a very high level in multiple knowledge areas or functions as an advanced contributor.
- Collaborate on cost estimates and budgets for projects, ensuring financial viability and adherence to budgetary constraints.
- Analyzes project schedule, progress, and cost reports and provides input to the Project Management Team to assist in developing mitigation plans to manage the work.
- Participate in the development of design and installation specifications along with commissioning plans.
- Familiar with project integration of electrical interconnects, fuel pipelines, permitting processes, thermal and water balance, and process controls.
- Construction Execution Planning (including Logistics planning, e.g. receiving and storage of equipment and materials, transportation and housing of workforce).
- Creates work instructions and engineering documentation to mobilize, refurbish, upgrade/convert, maintain, and preserve equipment.
- Analyzes and interprets data independently. Anticipates potential problems and takes preventative action. Participates in the project planning and scheduling process.
- Thorough understanding of the ASME/ANSI Boiler and Pressure Vessel and Piping Codes.
- Leads the research for innovations from external sources, and identifies opportunities to develop new processes, tools, services, and techniques within the function.
- Utilize critical thinking to develop economic analyses and marginal evaluations, enabling informed decision-making.
- Provide sound recommendations based on technical expertise and project knowledge.
- Utilize industry best practices, techniques, and standards throughout the entire project execution.
- Works on complex issues and projects.
- Uses independent judgment requiring in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Independently selects methods, techniques, analytical approaches, and evaluation criteria.
- Oversee the execution of projects from conception to start-up, including involvement during shutdowns and plant interfaces.
- Perform quality control throughout the project to maintain standards expected, specifications cited, and relevant governing body regulatory requirements - Ensure proper acceptance tests and inspection criteria are project-integrated
- Determines methods and procedures for new assignments.
- Serves as project/technical lead on medium to large projects; regularly coordinates work of professionals, technicians, and others outside of own department.
- Trains and mentors employees on technical skills.
- Demonstrated site organizational, teamwork, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Possesses business acumen to understand the financial management of a project, including budget management, expense, and cost control.
- Collaborate and solve problems – works with others to resolve significant issues, clarify, or interpret complex information, and provide initial screening/negotiations.
- Identify and resolve roadblocks and challenges that may arise during project execution.
- Provide project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress - Communicate with project owners to ensure alignment to project goals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Provides support, as needed, to the Project Manager/Director, Engineering Manager, Procurement Manager, Construction Manager and Project Controls Manager.
- Promote safety through proactive involvement in safety training, adherence to safety policies, and inclusion of company safety initiatives in project deliverables.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management.
- Seasoned professional; typically requires 8+ years experience managing medium sized projects of moderate risk. including 5+ years’ experience on small to mid-cap-sized industrial construction projects.
- Experience in gas, coal, process, or refinery plant development, construction, commissioning, and project engineering management.
- Project management and project engineering experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strategic mindset.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Word (i.e. creating documents), Excel (i.e. creating/updating spreadsheets), and Outlook (i.e. scheduling meeting invites & emailing)
- Experience with Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) is preferred.
