Job description

The Protected Communications Systems (PCS) organization within Collins Aerospace is looking for a Engineering Lab Manager. The Lab Manager works within a system Integration and Test (I&T) environment implementing and policing laboratory policy which includes calibration, property control, lab access, and adherence to RTX and Government Department of Defense (DoD) standards. The Lab Manager must not only maintain facilities that exceed standards but must also create an accommodating environment for program performance excellence. 


The laboratories will be subject to AS 9100/ISO 9001 audits, DCMA audits and EHS audits, and DCSA security audits which are all within the purview of the Lab Manager to support. These laboratories support numerous rotating programs, all at differing stages of execution. Engineers within the laboratories require consistent support with integrating, verifying, validating, and supporting our products.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Coordination and execution of Government and RTX engineering Lab requirements
  • Maintaining and standardizing lab infrastructure to meet program requirements
  • Maintain labs in “audit ready” condition to support AS 9100/ISO 9001 audits, DCMA audits and EHS audits 
  • Work closely with laboratory engineers to ensure lab policies are understood and followed including: Safety, quality controls, FOD/FOE, equipment calibration, RTX property controls, ESD controls, housekeeping, chemical management, Preventative Maintenance (PM), and ergonomics
  • Manage multiple fast paced programs within a single space. Ability to understand unique program requirements and scope


Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
  • 3+ years of experience in an Engineering Lab environment
  • Knowledgeable in EHSS lab safety
  • Ability to communicate clearly to multiple engineering/business/facilities audiences
  • Demonstrated leadership, well-organized, potential to direct the work of others
  • Understanding of quality processes which lead to successfully certified AS 9100/ISO 9001 laboratories
  • Data analysis skills to ensure accurate lab support metrics are being collected
  • Active SECRET Security Clearance or higher REQUIRED


Security Clearance:

  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements 


Preferred Qualifications:

    • Asset Management Systems experience (SAP and Aramis)

    • Working Knowledge of DoD lab run rules, policies, and procedures

    • Knowledge of ESD Controls (Garment control, wrist straps, SSWS, and monitoring)

    • Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)

    • Highly motivated self-starter; Can work independently with a minimum of supervision

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD.


The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays.


Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.


Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.


This role is a U.S.-based role.
