Job Description
BAE Systems is looking for a motivated Senior Principal Aerospace/Mechanical Engineer to join our team for an exciting opportunity supporting the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) weapon system program. The successful candidate will be an integral part of a highly-skilled Force Development Evaluation (FDE) team that supports Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) and Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC) with Operational Test Launch pre-flight mission planning, launch support, and post-flight accuracy and system performance analysis. AFGSC is responsible for evaluating the ICBM force's ability to accomplish its Air Force mission. AFGSC establishes accuracy and reliability planning factors under operational conditions, detects changes in weapon system accuracy and reliability, identifies areas for weapon system modification or improvement, and verifies operational effectiveness and suitability. This job position will directly support some of the following FDE activities:
  • Perform pre-flight mission planning tasks that include defining test objectives and range sensor requirements, targeting the mission, analyzing hazards and range safety constraints, and producing 6DOF flight predictions.
  • Attend test launch planning meetings and support launch activities.
  • Process booster and Reentry Vehicle (RV) telemetry data.
  • Perform missile system performance analysis.
  • Determine the Best Estimate of Trajectory (BET) from RV deployment to impact using metric tracking and weather data and use the BET to determine weapon system miss and all sub-component misses.
  • Perform Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) accuracy analysis using GPS/telemetry data to estimate guidance and control contribution to weapon system miss.
  • Perform RV body dynamics and Arming & Fuzing performance analysis.
  • Develop engineering estimates of accuracy, reconcile estimates with demonstrated flight test data, and adjust accuracy model accordingly. Compute and analyze accuracy data for bias, covariance, and circular error probability at RV burst and impact.
  • Provide engineering support to investigate missile flight test anomalies, provide analysis to determine cause, and develop corrective action solutions.
  • Develop, maintain, and modify software tools to determine vehicle performance and flight accuracy.
  • Publish vehicle performance and flight accuracy briefing materials and reports.

The position is located at Hill AFB, Utah.
