About This Opportunity
We are seeking a Project Engineer level I or II.
This individual will be responsible for serving existing clients and helping to increase Energy Efficiency in the territory through delivery of natural gas and electricity project engineering, strategic energy management (SEM), and program management services. The Project Engineer works directly with our clients to assess their operations and identify opportunities for maximizing Energy Efficiency and performance in industrial systems.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Collaborating with our utility client's engineering and program management staff with a high level of communication and transparency.
  • Providing overall management, direction, and accountability on assigned projects.
  • Managing individual project budgets and deliverables.
  • Engaging with clients at their industrial locations to fully understand their equipment, operations, and to identify opportunities to improve Energy Efficiency.
  • Exercise a combination of technical and interpersonal skills, paying close attention to customer "care-abouts." The ability to listen, motivate, and influence is critical.
  • Providing expertise and overall management, direction, and accountability on assigned projects.
  • Calculating energy savings for various system or equipment changes using existing calculation tools, original spreadsheets, and/or generally accepted engineering methodologies.
  • Documenting performance through data collection from customer sources or via installed data logging equipment.
  • Conducting Excel-based energy modeling and optimization of industrial systems (refrigeration, compressed air, fans, pumps, etc.).
  • Composing Energy Efficiency project reports based on analyses and observations.

This is a full-time, exempt position located in or near Portland, OR. Cascade is a strong supporter of flexible working arrangements; all employees have the option to choose a hybrid work arrangement combining work from home and work in the office.
This position requires approximately 20% travel, most of which is local. Travel could be a half day trip to a site or to meet with a vendor, a full day to multiple sites, or an occasional overnight to a more distant area.
Qualifications
Applicants for this role are required to have:
  • BS and/or MS in mechanical, chemical, or energy engineering or similar field, or equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
  • 1 to 6 years of experience with industrial Energy Efficiency, or equivalent engineering experience
  • Strong engineering analysis skills using MS Excel
  • Strong verbal and written communication and customer service skills required

A successful candidate should also demonstrate these preferred characteristics and/or skills:
  • Project management of capital or retrofit/operational projects in an industrial setting
  • Experience with project or process engineering in an industrial environment
  • Demand Side Management (DSM) program engineering experience
  • Experience with energy modeling including linear regression analysis, hourly industrial system analysis and time-of-day demand management analysis.
  • Technical expertise with the following industrial sub-systems; compressed air, refrigeration, process cooling, pumps and fans, industrial controls, furnaces, boilers, and data-logging of systems
  • Experience giving technical trainings to industrial customers

Compensation & Benefits
Our total rewards include competitive pay and excellent benefits. These include health (90% paid for team member, 70% paid for dependents on HDHP plans and 85% paid for team member, 65% paid for dependents on PPO plans), vision, FSA or HSA options with an employer contribution, life insurance, short- and long-term disability insurance, paid parental leave, 401k retirement plan with a guaranteed 3% contribution, Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP), annual cash performance bonus, paid vacation, sick time, and an inclusive, flexible paid holiday policy. The salary range for this position in Portland, OR is:
Project Engineer I = $72,100 - $88,100/year, Project Engineer II = $87,200 - $106,600/year
However, final salary offered may vary depending on non-discriminatory factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experiences, and geographical location if different than the above.
