POSITION:Encapsulation Scientist

FLSA Classification: Exempt

GENERAL SCOPE: The Encapsulation Scientist will develop and lead encapsulation projects at MANE for internal R&D initiatives, Category Management, and Sales. This position allows for creative encapsulation development alongside robust scientific development. The Encapsulation Scientist will work in a collaborative manner with internal local and global Innovation Committees to further influence global technology platforms. Your tool set will include all food grade materials & a range of process equipment such as spray dryers, multi-stage dryers, fluid bed dryers / coaters, wet chemistry based processes & various analytical equipment / techniques. This position offers the unique opportunity to execute on technical matters while establishing cross-functional teams & presenting / interfacing with external customers to support Sales initiatives. The position offers high visibility & the ability to grow leadership skills while creating unique encapsulation systems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for building and managing technical projects for Mane business partners such as Category Management & Sales.
  • Responsible for building and managing technical projects for the global Innovation Committee ensuring global connectivity & highlighting local technical needs.
  • Responsible for creating cross-functional teams to solve flavor & food applications challenges.
  • Responsible for creatively developing new encapsulation systems which provide technical & commercial value to the Mane organization meeting project regulatory, cost, & performance guidelines.
  • Support Sales based initiatives by traveling and presenting Mane capabilities at customers &/or at targeted technical / commercial conferences.
  • Work with Operations & Engineering teams to scale up & transfer technologies to various manufacturing sites.
  • Stay current with advances in encapsulation, processing & competitor products / technologies.
  • Manage and mentor priorities of at least one technician up to 50% of the time with potential for 100%.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelors degree or higher in Chemistry, Engineering, Chemical Technology or related field with a minimum of 2 years experience. Industry experience in encapsulation a strong plus & preferably in flavor/fragrance industry.
  • Experience with process equipment such as spray dryers, high shear mixers, fluid bed dryers.
  • A general understanding of chemical & engineering based concepts such as partition coefficients, material science, equipment scaling models.
  • The ability to learn analytical concepts & perform techniques such as Particle Size Analysis, DSC, Vapor Sorptive Analysis & UV-VIS.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills. Must feel comfortable to present & work with senior management, external customers & vendors.
  • Must be detail oriented & possess strong mathematical skills.
  • Proficient in experimental designs
  • Ability to multi-task & prioritize.
  • Ability and passion for mentoring.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift 50 pounds
