Position: Hourly Non-exempt
Rate of Pay: $15per hour to start
Week 1: 8-hours on Tuesday and Wednesday
Week 2: Three 8-hour days, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Ride/Drive Time for 24 hours between Monday and Saturday
Weeks 4-13: 8 hours Tuesday and Thursday, 4 hours on Wednesday
The EMT Academy is a 13-week paid training and education program for individuals interested in starting a career in the Emergency Medical Services field as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
EMTs provide pre-hospital care by conducting patient assessments to determine the nature/extent of illness/injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed. EMTs provide basic life support to all patients, adhering to established protocols, organizational procedures, and the PA DOH EMS Scope of Practice.
In addition to patient assessments and ambulance transportation, the EMT is also required to provide medical transportation by paratransit van or by medical taxi as permitted by the PUC.
Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in a paid eleven-week intensive classroom and clinical field EMT education.
- Maintain a course average of 75% or higher throughout the course.
- Obtain Emergency Vehicle Operation certification (PA DOH EMSVO Certification) within three weeks (21 calendar days) from the first day of the program.
- Obtain PA Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician Certification (PA DOH EMT certification) within eight weeks (56 calendar days) from the last day of the course.
- Act as an Emergency Vehicle Operator as needed.
Requirements:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Fluent in the English language—Must be able to read, comprehend written materials, interpret spoken information, and effectively communicate in writing and in person using the English language, telephone, telecommunications, and other electronic devices.
- Be able to stand frequently; walk; sit; use hands to fingers, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; stoop; kneel or crouch.
- Ability to frequently lift and/ or move more than 100 lbs.
- Possess a Valid Driver's license with no license suspension in the past two years or DUI convictions in the past four years.
- Cannot have been convicted of a crime greater than a summary offense that would prevent obtaining a Dept. of Health, Bureau of EMS Certification in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
- Be able to pass a post-offer drug test screening.
- Cannot have been excluded or listed as ineligible to participate in Medicare, Medicaid, or other Federal programs.
- Must be able to pass the following background clearances post offer:
- Act 151 Childline Child Abuse Clearance
- Act 114 FBI Fingerprint Clearance
- Act 34 PA Criminal History Clearance
- Be able to work for EmergyCare Full Time as an EMT for at least one year.
- Effective computer skills
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment while working in a stressful environment.
- Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Vaccination program under the Federal Government Mandate is a requirement.
