Overview
0.9FTE, 36 hours per week
Rotating shifs; Primarily evening & night shifts with occasional day shifts, Weekend & holiday requirment
Working 12-hour shifts
Mandatory on call shift 2-3 days per 6 week schedule
Full-Time Benefits Eligible
Min. 1 year of driving emergency vehicles required.
Min. pay is $20/hr. plus shift differentials.
Provides transportation and support to the Transport Program and fleet of Mobile Intensive Care Units. Obtains information from Transport Team, NCH Dispatch, and Patient Consult Transfer Center (PCTC) on requests for transports and mobilizes the MICU for pending trips. The driver will provide maintenance, inspection, inventory and cleaning of the MICU. Assist Transport Team with only those skills listed in principal duties when requested to aid in stabilization of patients at a referral hospital under the direct supervision of a Transport Clinician or physician. Will assist in maintaining all department, state, and national data collection and records. Participate in preparedness and inspections for the department and the fleet of vehicles.

Responsibilities
1. Drive the MICU to and from referring hospitals, clinics and outpatient centers.
2. Assists with the planning of the transport team activities in accordance with established written guidelines, policies, and procedures.
3. In conjunction with the Physician Consult Transfer Center (PCTC) and NCH Dispatch, organize rapid transport mobilization and assures appropriate utilization of resources. Is responsible for evaluation and monitoring weather conditions throughout shift to preplan for anticipated trips throughout region.
4. Providing Family Centered Care, crisis intervention, support, and education to the family of the critically ill neonate, infant, child, adolescent, or adult.
5. Assist with office duties as requested.
6. Provides daily fleet and equipment inspection as well as shift briefings at the start of each shift.
7. Provides weekly cleaning and maintenance of MICUs.
8. Maintains safety of patients and transport team in accordance with safety and security driving guidelines and transport guidelines.
9. Maintains equipment and supplies necessary to the transport system including routine maintenance and cleaning.
10. Identifies system problems for research and assists in research activites of the transport program.
11. Continually evaluates methods of practice, recommends changes and modifications to improve the department and patient outcomes.
12. Actively participates in the unit committees and projects to assure daily operation and growth of the Transport Program.
13. Establishes professional objectives, evaluates self and peers, and shares progress with the Transport Program Manager.
14. Attends and actively participates in monthly staff meetings.
15. Attends and actively participates in hospital based committees and projects.
16. Successfully completed quarterly skills and recertification requirements.
17. Attends neonatal and pediatric education opportunities designed for/or relevant to transport personnel.
18. Actively pursues own professional growth through attendance at conferences, educational activities, and through continual review and sharing of professional experiences.After demonstration and completion of skill competencies, will be able to perform additional procedures and duties as requested under the direction/supervision of a Transport Clinician and/or Physician:
1. Apply cardiac monitor electrodes and oxygen saturation probe to patient.
2. Assist with cervical spine stabilization and immobilization. Hold patient for manual C-spine immobilization with transport member in attendance.
3. Document patient?s vital signs.
4. Administer oxygen therapy by mask or nasal cannula.
5. Perform oral suctioning.
6. Perform compressions or documents during resuscitation.
7. Certifications required: BLS preferably before completion of orientation but within 1 year of orientation.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
1. Certified by the State of Ohio as an EMT-B or EMT- I (Emergency Medical Technician-Basic or Intermediate). The department strongly encourages individuals to pursue EMT-P (Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic).
2. Current Ohio Driver's license.
3. Must pass driving qualifications and training set forth by Nationwide Children?s Transport Team.
4. Must pass motor vehicle background inspection and insurance coverage eligibility (E-21).
5. Minimum of 1 year experience driving emergency vehicles and prefer minimum of 1 year pediatric patient care experience or 6 months transport experience and training
6. Demonstrates self-motivation, sensitivity, leadership, interpersonal skills, teaching ability, organization, and high level of critical thinking and decision making.
7. Demonstrate ability to work under stress using sound judgment.
8. Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
9. Remain qualified by current Nationwide Children?s Insurance guidelines.
10. On call hours required
MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS1. Must be able to independently lift up to 165 pounds and pull/push 300 pound isolette without assistance.2. Must be able to see, hear, stand, walk, speak, read and perform manual tasks with or without accommodation; and care for oneself with little or no difficulty.3. Must be able to move or reposition patients of any weight or size with the assistance of another person(s) and/or equipment.4. Pass physical for MICU Driver and yearly health evaluations.5. Must have at least 8 hours off from any other employment prior to driving.6. Must pass a Fit for Duty Test upon hire, annually, and before returning to work from a leave of absence or FMLA.walking/standing frequently (34-66%)riding/flying long distances frequently (34-66%)lifting/moving frequently (34-66%)pushing/pulling frequently (34-66%)talking in person & on phone occasionally (0-33%)
