Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Services, the EMT Basic recruit will participate in assigned training and formal academic programs of instruction during the TRAA EMT Basic Recruit Academy, which is designed to qualify the incumbent to graduate the academy and fill the position of a TRAA EMT Basic in the field. This position will interact with various internal and external entities and is subject to signing a 2-year employment contract.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prompt and regular attendance at work.
  • Must always maintain a neat and professional appearance per Company Policy.
  • Responsible for adhering to all policies and procedures provided in the Company Policy and Standing Orders.
  • Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with others within the community and EMS system.
  • Participates in daily room lectures, laboratory practices, response simulations, live field exercises, clinical days, operational days, and other orientation activities to qualify incumbent for graduation from the TRAA EMT Basic Recruit Academy and promotion to TRAA EMT Basic.
  • Succeeds in completing all required tests and certificates.
  • Maintains coursework performance averages meeting the standards set forth by the TRAA EMT Basic Recruit Academy.
  • Completes homework as assigned.
  • Develops knowledge of patient advocacy and interagency teamwork.
  • Develops skills for assessing patients and knowledge of procedures as defined by the National Registry, State of Indiana, and TRAA Medical Director.
  • Develops knowledge and skills in documenting patient care and other reports appropriately.
  • Participates in learning to operate an emergency vehicle, including responding to emergency scenes and transporting patients to medical facilities.
  • Develops knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, including customer needs, meeting quality service standards, and customer satisfaction.
  • Builds and maintains a strong safety focus and follows safety standards and practices.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must pass a pre-employment background screening

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to sit; climb or balance; step, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or carry up to 125 pounds and occasionally lift and/or carry up to 200 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Working Environment:
  • Works outdoors and indoors with occasional exposure to hazardous conditions and blood/body fluids, requires respirator use, fumes/odors, extended day, and temperature changes. Frequently works with others, face-to-face contact with exposure to noise, mechanical equipment, and electrical equipment. Performs shift work and performs duties frequently in a mobile environment and in confined areas.
