Under the direct supervision of the EMS Unit Supervisor/EMS Coordinator provides education and training to all disciplines of emergency care providers. Takes a leadership role in course development through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of classroom, laboratory, clinical and on-line instruction.

Certification/Licensure
Required certification applicable to training assigned (i.e. State of Illinois Licensed Emergency Care Provider, or other applicable certification, such as EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, RN, PA, DO or MD)
State of Illinois Certified EMS Instructor II or working toward completion preferred
Certified American Heart Association Instructor in at least one level (BLS, ACLS, PALS), as applicable.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

- Responsible for EMT, AEMT ,Paramedic and/or AHA Course development using the guidelines and curriculum outlined by state and/or the appropriate national agencies (CoAEMSP, FEMA, American Heart Association, etc.).
- Demonstrates the ability to provide quality instruction in all learning domains ( Cognitive, Psychomotor and Affective)
- Applies the principles of Adult Learning to the classroom
- Demonstrates the ability to set clear and obtainable goals and objective for course participants and then monitor and evaluate student progress according to state, overseeing agency and/or department criteria
- Engages the learner and provides well timed and effective feedback
- Provides mentorship and/or supervision to the novice instructor
- Instructs in the at least one of the American Heart Association Classes (BLS, ACLS, PALS).
- Document, collect, maintain and submit accurate class records
- Teach at varied time and places using varied formats based on student demand: Day or evening, main campus, mobile Sim lab or on site of students' employment.
- Demonstrates exceptional customer service and interacts effectively with students, customers and Mercy Partners of all disciplines.
