Position Summary
The Career & Technical Education Department is recruiting for a part-time EMS Clinical Coordinator/Instructor. This position will work a maximum of 19 hours per week and is primarily responsible for coordinating the external experiences of students in the Emergency Medical Services Program and to teach and conduct student evaluation in selected clinical areas.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Communicate regularly and frequently with the EMS Program Director regarding student or preceptor issues or progress.
- Collaborate with the Allied Health Division chair to ensure "Education Affiliation Agreements" are in effect for all current clinical and EMS affiliates.
- Meet with appropriate clinical departments and EMS operation managers to negotiate details of external experiences; to include learning objectives, student schedules, orientation requirements, and affiliate preceptor training.
- Prepare learning objectives and syllabi for each clinical/internship course.
- Recruit, evaluate applicants, and recommend hiring of Clinical Teaching Assistants/ Preceptors.
- Provide orientation and oversight to Clinical Teaching Assistants/Preceptors.
- Insure the students meet and maintain immunization, TB test, and CPR certification requirements prior to having any direct patient contact.
- Provide clinical orientation to EMSP program students, including HIPAA training.
- Develop a student clinical/internship schedule that maximize student learning and completion of requirements.
- Develop a process by which students select or are assigned specific clinical/EMS shifts.
- Prepare clinical documentation manuals for each clinical/internship course.
- Keep office hours and provide clinical instruction/evaluations/compliance and, if needed, counseling, an average of 6 hours per week.
- Monitor student progress in Platinum Planner and, in the ED, Preceptor evaluations, for compliance to expected performance and progress in completing minimum Student Minimum Competencies (SMC) for CoAEMSP.
- For students in the EMS capstone course, meet with each student and their preceptor at least twice early in the semester to determine progress and completion of exit competencies.
- Evaluate/grade clinical documentation. Determine course grades and record/report in student's Canvas portal regularly. Post syllabus, clinic handbook and any relative information in their Canvas courses.
Qualifications
- Associate or higher degree; preferably in EMS or other allied health discipline.
- Paramedic licensure issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
- Minimum of three years experience as a MICU-level prehospital paramedic or acute/critical care provider with competence in all clinical performance/behavioral objectives.
- Minimum ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, AMLS certifications
- AHA and NAEMT instructor preferred.
- EMS Instructor preferred.
- Prior clinical instruction preferred.
